Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar, (Arab world known as:Sheikh Aboobacker Ahmad), Born 22 March 1939) is the leader and sufi scholar of Sunni Muslims in India. Usthad Sheikh Aboobackar bin Ahmad is the General Secretary of the All India Muslim Scholars Association (All India Sunni Jam-Iyyathul Ulema), Founder and Chancellor of Jamia Markazu Ssaquafathi Ssunniyya (Sunni Cultural Centre), Karanthur, Kozhikode, Kerala. He is also chief patron of the Sunni Youth Society and General Secretary, Samastha Kerala Sunni Jamiat Ulema (Kerala)[1][2][3] Kanthapuram is a scholar, orator, writer, organizer, educationist and fore-fighter of social revivalism.[4] Over the years Kanthapuram has expressed very conservative views on women's liberties.[5]

Contributions in Education

He popularized the concept of combined education in which one can study both Islamic and material knowledge. He runs hundreds of institutes across India teaching combined religious and material education.He runs institutes on more than 22 states in India.He concentrates his vision and mission in creating an educational revolution among Indian muslims. More than 20,000 students are presently studying in his main center Markazu Ssaquafathi Ssunniyya alone.All the expenses including food,accommodation,education is free of course guaranteed for poor needy people in his institutes.

The most expected contribution Markaz Knowledge City is under under construction which include the first Muslim governed Law college in india, Ayurveda Medical college, Unani medical college,Engineering college,Research center in islamic law, Sharia city, International school, Cyboland IT park, Mosque, and residential apartments.

Contributions in Charity

He built around 3000 masjids across India(Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarath, West bengal, Orissa, Assam, Uttar pradesh, Tamil nadu, Bihar, Jammu and kashmir and various other parts of India). Probably, He may the man in the Islamic history building the most number of masjids in the world. He built thousands of wells for drinking water across india predominantly in north india. Thousands of people who had to travel kilometers for drinking water got benefited from this. He looks after more than 3000 orphans whose parents are dead giving all the expenses and care including food,dress,education upto any level etc free of course. In addition to this, he looks after hundreds of small orphans below age 7 in their own home by giving money for their expenses.Because of this,He is known as Abal aytham(Father of orphans). An organization which is controlled by him(Sunni Youth Society) do lot of charity works like giving food to the patients and bystanders in hospitals,providing medical expenses and medical instruments for patients, giving houses for the needy people under the name Darul khair(House of blessing), Giving vehicles to set a business for the poor people etc.

Stance against ISIS

Kanthapuram is the one of the notable muslim scholar[6] responded against ISIS.[7][8] He said :The Muslim world is in dire need to take cognizance of the threats posed by the anti-Islamic outfits. The militant groups among Muslims are causing harm to Islam in the false garb of Islamists. Any support or endorsement to the extremist and terrorist organizations goes completely against the Islamic sharia[9][10]

He redefined the society by giving a high standard and respect to the scholars.He is honored by all the political parties and non muslim communities for his secular vision and secular guidance given to the society.He is the father of thousands who haven't their own.He effaced the scope of growth of variational approaches in islam like Mujahid(Vahhabis), Moudoodi(Jama-athe islami), Thableege jama-ath and similar kinds in India particularly in Kerala. He is known as Sulthanul ulama and Qamarul Ulama among muslims.

His bukhari class in Markaz Saqafathi Sunniyya is world renowned for the deep knowledge and participation.It is telecasted live across the world. Several organizations like All India Muslim Jama-ath, SYS[11](Sunni Youth Society), SSF(Sunni Students' Federation), SBS(Sunni Bala Sangham), SJM(Sunni Jamiyyathul Muallimeen), SMA(Sunni Management Association), MSO(Muslim Students Organization), RCFI[12](Relief and Charity Federation of India) and also RSC(Risala Study Circle) and ICF(Islamic Cultural Federation) across GCC countries are working under his guidance.

Awards and Honors

  • Indian Islamic Centre Award 2000 for the best socio-cultural and educational worker in India.[13]
  • The Ras-Al Khaimah Islamic Academy Award for the best Social Worker. in 1992.[14]
  • Islamic Heritage Award for his service to protect Islamic culture and heritage by Jeddah (KSA) based Islamic heritage. in January 2009.[15]
  • Imam Bukhari Award. in 2013[16]
  • Dr. Mohammad Abdu Yamaani Alif Arabic Award in 2016[17]
