Richard Edison Uy Yap (born May 18, 1967)[1] is a Filipino actor and businessman, best known for his role as "Papa Chen" in My Binondo Girl and in the television drama Be Careful With My Heart as Richard "Sir Chief" Lim.

Career

In 2011, Yap launched his career in ABS-CBN via My Binondo Girl where he played Kim Chiu's father, Chen Sy.[2]

In 2012, Yap made several appearances in the network. He played a recurring character in Walang Hanggan as Henry de Dios.[3] But it was his role as "Sir Chief, where he co-starred alongside Jodi Santamaria in the daytime drama Be Careful With My Heart that catapulted him to fame spreading to other countries and made him a household name. The show ran from 2012-2014 due to its large following and loyal fanbase. Be Careful With My Heart would go on to have worldwide tours, concerts, an album, and has been aired in numerous other continents.[citation needed]

After his stint with Be Careful With My Heart, Yap had no regular roles and had brief stints such as in Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita where his character was paired with Vina Morales, Ang Probinsyano portraying as an antagonistic character by the name of Philip, and will guest in My Super D.[4]

It was reported in April 2016 that ABS-CBN is planning the reunion projects for Yap and his Be Careful With My Heart leading lady Jodi Sta. Maria. The two will first topbill an upcoming Star Cinema film.[4]

Personal life

Yap was born and raised in Cebu City. He graduated from Sacred Heart School and De La Salle University. Coming from a family who loves to cook, Richard aspired to be full-blooded chef in his younger years.
