Aura Kingdom, also known as Fantasy Frontier Online (Chinese: 幻想神域) in Taiwan and Hong Kong and Innocent World in Japan, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game made by the Taiwanese game developer X-Legend. In Japan it originally was called Gensō Shin'iki (幻想神域, lit.: "Fantasy Sanctuary"), but after a significant update the name was changed to Gensō Shin'iki: Cross to Fate (幻想神域 ~ Cross to Fate ~). Other notable games developed by X-Legend are Grand Fantasia and Eden Eternal.[2]
Aura Kingdom was published by Aeria Games in January 2014. It is a free-to-play game that was announced on August 12, 2013 at Otakon 2013.[3] Attendees at Otakon were given beta key for the MMO.
Gameplay
The game begins by villagers asking the player to help around with tasks around the village.[4]
Players take on the role of Envoys, where they are tasked with the mission to save Azuria, the fantasy world of Aura Kingdom, from Darkness.[5] Players can choose one of twelve classes to play from: Guardian, Duelist, Ravager, Wizard, Sorcerer, Bard, Grenadier, Gunslinger, Brawler, Ranger, Ronin, Necromancer, or Greatsword. Players can then choose one of the four starting pet Eidolon to start their battle with, with the opportunity of recruiting more as the game progresses.[6]
In Aura Kingdom, players can have pets as companions, that grow and evolve with them. These pets are known as ‘Eidolons’ and retain memories of players past accomplishments such as boss kills and will converse it with the players.[7]
Critical reception
Games In Asia rated the game 6.1/10, noting a strong storyline, well-done anime-style character designs and impressive graphics. But noted a lack of dungeons, repetitiveness, and unchallenging gameplay as weak points of the game.[8]
