History 1970

Given that prior to joining the Common Market (as it was in 1970) the UK only claimed exclusive fishing rights to 12 nautical miles from its coastline. I doubt that this small area contained four fifths of all the fish of Western Europe so would question the claim that by signing the "Accession Treaty on 22 January 1972, thereby handing over an estimated four fifths of all the fish off Western Europe" is true.
