Ovates were one of the three specialties within ancient Druidism. They focused on working with the wonders of the natural world.

They resided in the deep forest. It is here that their work with trees and herbs began. Within the safety of the forest the Ovates worked with their skills of divination, healing, and earthen magic. They explored the Druidic relationship with their ancestors of blood and spirit through seeking the wisdom of the night and of the moon.

Work

Ovates worked with the processes of death and regeneration. They were the native healers of the Celts. They specialized in conversing with their ancestors in prophesizing the future.[1]

As specialists in the art of healing, Ovates applied natural law to the problems of the human body and mind. They used natural remedies, such as plants, herbs, spices and the derivitives of these. They combined this with solar, lunar, and stellar power to heal.

They believed that death was the doorway to a wider life. They taught that only by letting go does the seeker find the solution in life. Their teachings relied on an oral tradition.[2]

Ovates provided the prophecy and divination needed for a reorientation in relation to time. To travel within time requires a new concept time, of its nature and dynamics that is radically different to the materialistic thinking of today. It is more similar to the theoretical cosmology of one of the world's leading theoretical physicists Steven Hawkings.
