Tom O'Halleran is a Democratic politician from Arizona who is currently a candidate for Arizona's 1st congressional district in the 2016 election.

O'Halleran formerly served as a Republican in the Arizona State Legislature. He represented the 1st District in the Senate from 2007 to 2009, but was unseated by primary challenger Steve Pierce during the 2008 election cycle. Prior to that, he served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2001 through 2006. O'Halleran is a former Chicago, Illinois police officer.[1]

In 2014 he resigned from the Republican Party, citing the party's policies on education, water and child welfare as reasons for his departure. He then stood for election in the 1st District as an Independent, losing by 3%.[2]

After leaving the Arizona State Legislature, O'Halleran hosted a radio show in Sedona.[3]

2016 U.S. House campaign

On August 6, 2015, O'Halleran announced his candidacy as a Democrat for Arizona's 1st congressional district.[4]

In May 2016, O'Halleran was named to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's Red to Blue list, naming him a priority race for the group.[5]

O'Halleran won the Democratic primary on August 30, 2016 against Miguel Olivas.[6] He will face Paul Babeu and Ray Parrish[7] in the General Election on November 8, 2016.[8]
