Kim Bo-reum (Hangul: 김보름, born 6 February 1993) is a female South Korean speed skater.

Kim is the current South Korean record holder in the 3000 and 5000 metres.[1]

Speed skating

In 2007, at the age of 14, she was selected for the South Korean national junior team and won the gold medal in the women's 2000 metre relay at the Asian Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships.

At the end of April 2010, however, Kim turned to long track speed skating. In January 2011, she won the silver medal in the women's 3000 meters at the Asian Winter Games.

Reason for choosing speed skating

Kim decided to become a speed skater after watching the performances of Korean athlete Lee Seung-Hoon. Lee had switched from short track to speed skating and went on to win medals at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

Chronicle

Short Track

Kim began short track speed skating when she was in grade five in primary school in Daegu, Republic of Korea. Kim was initially influenced to try the sport by her friends.

Elementary School

On August 2, 2003, Kim from Munseong Elementary School won girl's 1000m in 5th/6th grade division at Daegu Oval during Daegu Mayor's Cup Speed Skating Meet.[5]

2007

At 2007 Asia Junior Short Track Championships, held from 15 to 16 December, 2007 in Taiwan, Kim from Seonghwa Junior High school won girl's 2000m relay and placed 2nd in girl's 1000m.[6]
