Doko (basket)
Doko (Nepali: डोको) is a kind of basket made from bamboo. Doko is woven by hand in netted form giving it a conical shape or a "V" shape. Dokos are especially used by porters to carry goods in Nepal, Bhutan and North India.
Material
Doko is made from dry bamboo shoots. The life span of bamboo is higher and it can withstand rough weather condition for longer period of time.
Uses
Dokos are typically 0.1 to 0.2 m3 in size. It is made in such a way that, an average person can carry weight of about 20-50kg manually. Generally Doko is carried with the help of a rope called Namlo (Nepali: नाम्लो) that surrounds the Doko and transfers the load to forehead of the carrying person.
Dokos are used to carry goods, vegetables, grains, water pots, etc. It also used to carry small animals such as hens, lamb etc. Doko are sometimes used as cage for chickens and hens for temporary purpose.
