Ipsy is an online monthly subscription service that sends its subscribers a glam bag of five selected deluxe sample or full size makeup products, or other beauty related products. These products include cosmetics, perfumes, nail and skin products, or other items.

History

In 2011, Michelle Phan and Marcelo Camberos co-founded Ipsy, originally named "MyGlam." The company launched in September of 2012 under the name "Ipsy."[1] Ipsy's official creators are Christen Dominique, Cydnee Black, Jaleesa Moses, Karen O, LaMadelynn, LustreLux, Lynette Cenée, Gabriel Zamora, and Madison Miller. These creators are all involved in YouTube and social media.[2]

Social Media Involvement

Ipsy uses social media as a platform in a way that is unique to their company. The service was created with a strong foundation in YouTube, and the Ipsy's creators are all beauty vloggers on YouTube. Members are offered certain benefits in return for social media involvement- for instance, rewards points may be given in return for a post on Facebook about that month's Glam Bag. This has earned the company immense success with virtually no advertising outside of social media platforms.

Ipsy Rewards

Subscribers may be rewarded reward points for acts such as reviewing products they received in their Glam Bag, posting promotions on social media, and referring others to the service.
