Steel Division: Normandy 44 is a real-time strategy video game being developed by Eugen Systems and published by Paradox Interactive, due to be released on May 23, 2017.[1][2]

Setting

Steel Division will take place in Northern France during the Second World War. The game is set during the battles fought between the Allied and Axis powers as the Allies push out of their invasion beachheads on the north coast of France. A wide variety of military forces will be represented, including those of the United States, United Kingdom, Nazi Germany, France, Poland, and Canada.[3]

The game is set to feature 15 original maps at launch, although the total number of playable maps will be larger due to each one being able to scale in size depending on the number of players allocated. Certain maps will include amphibious gameplay elements in which specialist units can traverse both land and water, thereby allowing strategic objectives such as bridges to be bypassed.[4]

Gameplay

In the game, the player will take control of historical units based on the divisions that fought in the days and weeks following the Allied invasion of Normandy in 1944. The player will choose a set of units before the start of a match, and then they can call in units from the selected deck during the battle. The matches will be subdivided into three phases, with more powerful units only becoming available after a certain point in the game. Steel Division: Normandy 44 will feature three single player campaigns, and up to 10 v 10 online multiplayer battles.[5]

The game will include 18 playable divisions at launch, divided equally between the Allies and Germany:[6]
