1999 is the debut album by French house music duo Cassius. It was released in January 1999 by record label Virgin.

Writing and recording

The album was written and produced by Cassius members Phillippe Zdar and Boom Bass.

Release

1999 was released on 25 January 1999 by record label Virgin. It reached number 28 in the UK Albums Chart.[1]

Three singles were released from the album: "Cassius 1999", which reached number 7 in the UK Singles Chart[1] and hit the top 10 in the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart;[citation needed] "Feeling for You", which reached number 16 in the UK[1] and also charted in the top 10 in the US;[citation needed] and "La Mouche", which reached number 53 in the UK.[1]

John Bush of AllMusic qualified the album as "A sleek and intelligent dance record",[2] while James P. Wisdom of Pitchfork wrote: "Maybe I need some coke to truly delight in the seething vacancy of 1999, but I'm pretty sure that it's clearly not happening."[3]
