Agder Energi is a power company based in Agder, Norway. It is the third largest power producer in Norway, after its largest owner, Statkraft (45.5%) who owns it along with 30 municipalities in the region Agder. It owns a stake in or operates 47 hydroelectric power plants,[1] operates the power grid in 30 municipalities, as well as district heating in Kristiansand, Mandal and Risør. Through the subsidiary LOS, Agder Energi offers end-user sale of power and broadband.

The company has a range of other owner interests, including Norsk Biobrensel (28.6%), the collection agency Sopran and the windfarm operator Dalane Vind (50%).

History

Agder Energi was created in 2000 when Aust-Agder Energi (AAE), Vest-Agder Energiverk (VAE) og Kristiansand Energiverk (KEV) were merged. At the time the company was valued at NOK 14.8 billion. The ownership was divided by 31.23% to AAE, 38.36% to VAE and 27.96% to KEV. In 2002 the state owned Statkraft bought 45.5% of the company. In October 2016, Microsoft collaborated with Adger Energi and Powel for the development of a pilot grid project.[2]
