Repeat: Abandoned course at University of Southern California? And offer to help with sanitation-related articles
Hi User:Ian (Wiki Ed), I had put this on your talk page on 20 December but it was moved to the archive without an answer. So I am copying it again. If my question is not appropriate please let me know on my talk page. Otherwise, I'd love to see a response from you: Hi Ian, I come from the WikiProject Sanitation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Sanitation). I saw on the page on groundwater pollution that a student from this course: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wiki_Ed/University_of_Southern_California/Ecological_Factors_in_Design_(Spring_2016) was meant to work on that page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Groundwater_pollution). Seems like nothing has happened though (since February 2016). I couldn't figure out from the course page if the course was abandoned or if just this one student abandoned the assignment? Could you let me know and perhaps also say something on the course page about it? - I also have a question where to find good example pages of where university instructors have successfully involved their students in editing Wikipedia articles. I've started a little list here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Sanitation#Student_assignments But I am sure you probably keep more comprehensive lists? If any university people are interested in getting students to work on pages that are tagged with the WikiProject Sanitation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Sanitation#Lists_by_content) I would be happy to help, e.g. with regards to content, photos, structuring, referencing. EvMsmile (talk) 13:21, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- Hi EvMsmile. Sorry about that - I saw your message and meant to get back to you, but it slipped my mind (and I missed it when I was archiving).
- So the student who worked on groundwater pollution was BriManly, and they did end up making some edits. The course page actually has a link to the Wiki Ed Dashboard for the class, up in the top left. For this class, it's here. (Maintaining the education program extension wasn't on WMF's priorities, so we built our own. WMF now runs an implementation of it here; you can read more about it at meta:Programs & Events Dashboard.
- As for compiling a more complete list - I should be able to put together a list of sanitation-related articles that students in courses that worked with us have done. I'll get back to you on that. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:28, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. I look forward to seeing your list (it doesn't have to be a list of sanitation-related articles but a list of university courses in general where lecturers have used students to edit Wikipedia articles). If it was part of those dashboard links that you sent, I couldn't quite figure out how to find what I was looking for. EvMsmile (talk) 22:02, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
Hello.
This is the draft of our new article. We were hoping you would be able to read over it and give us suggestions for improving the tone, content, and organization.
Thanks!

Editing Pet Nutrition article in Sandbox
Hi Ian!
My group has recently completed their draft on Gestation and Lactation diets for dogs. Would you be able to edit it via my (Elana Huong's) sandbox?
Thank you for your help! Ehuong (talk) 18:14, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
Yes it will be moved to the "Canine Reproduction" page! We would be making a new section for "Diet" after "Clinical Issues". Sorry for not clarifying. Ehuong (talk) 19:51, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

Editing my sandbox
Hi Ian,
My group and i have contributed to my sandbox for adding information to 2 pages on wikipedia. We have information to add to the cat page and to the cat food page specifically to the vegan/vegetarian part of it. Do you have to edit/approve it before we transfer it over to the main page?
Thank you, Emma Emma.thornton (talk) 19:49, 24 November 2017 (UTC)

Ready to move sandbox to the main space
Hi Ian! Myself and my classmates have been editing a page called Hypoallergenic dog food and we believe that we are ready to move this article into the main space of Wikipedia. We were wondering if you could look it over and give us some pointers? Thanks!

Adding an image to wiki sandbox
Hey Ian,
I made a histogram on my laptop that I tried to add onto wiki but when it uploaded it says it was a stolen image and I was copyrighting. When I tried to delete it wouldn't let me so then I tried to add the reference to where I obtained the information for the histogram and it wouldn't let me. The histogram was copied out of the textbook Canine and Feline Nutrition where I recreated it in excel. So I just undid all my edits on the sandbox but it is still saying that I am violating copy-write protocols. I want to upload the histogram image but I don't know how and I also don't want it to say I am copywriting because I'm not I just don't know what I am doing.

Making Edits
Hi Ian, we were wondering if for the ANSC 4560 assignment you needed to check over all of the minor edits we are hoping to make, such as adding a few sentences here and there into larger articles. We are adding a large section to other articles that will we wait for you to edit in our sandbox, however, with the minor edits, we aren't sure how to go about it in a way that allows you to edit all the minor changes and where we are adding them in the articles. Hopefully this makes sense, thank you (Hannahjayg (talk) 19:22, 27 November 2017 (UTC))

Hello.
I need help with some feedback for what I have drafted so far for the Wiki article I am editing. I will be adding at least 350 additional words to the existing draft, so could you look over what I have and see if it is appropriate for the article? Thank you!

Final version- sandbox
Hi Ian,
What my group an I were going for is that we are going to be contributing to more than one page on wikipedia. We will be adding to the "Cat" page, specifically under the "physiology" subsection of this page. For this page we want to describe some of the amino acids etc. that cats cannot produce themselves which is why they need to be supplemented in a diet and why the cat fully cannot produce them. We want to broaden the very minimal information in this section. From here we were then going to link this section of the "Cat" page to the "Cat food" page more specifically the vegetarian/vegan diet section. In this section, we then want to provide some information on what types of vegan foods can be available that contain these nutrients that the cats require. Again, by linking it back to the first page on "Cats" and why they specifically need those nutrients.
Does this make sense? Or are we still approaching this assignment all wrong?

ANSC 4560 Request to edit kitten article
Hi User: Ian (Wiki Ed) Could you please check the kitten nutrition edits that I made in response to your suggestions in my sandbox/talk page. If they are okay I would like to request to keep them on the kitten page. Thanks you. Nmccarth2 (talk) 00:57, 28 November 2017 (UTC)

ANSC 4560 Edit
Hi Ian, would you be able to look over/edit our section for the "Coat (Dog)" article. We are adding a section for this article called "Nutritional Impacts on Coat Health". All of the work is in my sandbox and should be formatted the way we were hoping to add it. Thank you, (Hannahjayg (talk) 14:56, 28 November 2017 (UTC))
Low protein for Cat: ansc 4560 edit
Hi Ian, My group is adding low protein for cats to the Wiki page cat food. We would greatly appreciate it if you could review our work that is on my sandbox and give us any feedback before we move it onto the cat food page. Thanks, Mfox03 (talk) 15:46, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
Hello Ian,
Would you be able to review our sandbox draft of what we would like to change/add to the Raw feeding article and give us some feedback? Thanks in advance.
--Fvialard (talk) 16:04, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
Hi Ian, somebody in one of your classes created the above article with section headings but no content, and a speedy deletion tag was put on it. I've reverted this, had a word with the tagger, and added a one-line stub description, with a good book source. I didn't want to do too much work as I assume the course attendee was going to follow up on this at some point. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:49, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Ritchie333: - Thanks very much! And yes, they should finish this up their work by the end of next week. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:28, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
Need help request from Tmilligan24 (talk)
Hello.
I need help with... I have made a rough draft and wanted someone to look over it, please! The previous article on Virginia M. Alexander, in my opinion, needed some work; a majority of it was nearly word-for-word from a source. I copy and pasted the original article, made edits, added information of my own, and now have a draft. Please let me know what I need to do!
