Removing Paragraph On "Besoms & Flying"

This information stems from the discredited work by Margaret Murray, specifically her 1921 "The Witch Cult In Western Europe". As such, I am removing the paragraph.BoyintheMachine (talk) 18:44, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Section On Besom Coming From The Egyptian God Bes

No credible sources for this. As such I am removing it.BoyintheMachine (talk) 18:47, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Uses

I know this sort of broom is probably most familiar to modern readers as the stereotypical "witch's broom", but surely the "uses" section should be more about it's actual use as a sweeping tool (including when and why they were displaced by more modern types of broom), ahead of listing its ritual uses in Wicca. The way the article is currently is (IMO) like having an article on the shepherd's crook with a "use" section that only talks about its symbolism in Christianity. (Having said that, I just checked the Shepherd's crook article, which redirects to Shepherd, where the first mention of the crook is in relation to it's Christian symbolism, but just because that article makes that mistake doesn't mean this one has to as well). This is part of the neopagan series. In addition, this broom, nowadays, is mostly associated with neopaganism. I don't think "the use of a broom as a sweeping instrument" deserves any special mention, at least on this wiki. Perhaps on wikipedia simple? More sources however, would be nice, though on cursory glance, this information seems to be correct. Dark12222000 (talk) 20:49, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Origin

I'm removing the Origin paragraph for now because it currently on contains a random bible quote. If someone wants to dig up some more information on the source of Besom brooms, feel free to add this paragraph back.

Besoms and Flying

This claim: "The generally accepted theory about the origins of witches and flying with their brooms is based in a ritual involving a psychoactive drug trip." is not supported by the reference cited. In fact, the author of the reference, Adams, suggests that the claim is "far-fetched". So I'm deleting the nonsense about it being "generally accepted." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.68.134.1 (talk) 16:36, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Besoms & Flying

The section on flying being "speculation" on the use of psychoactive drugs, should not be included, both because the idea here is widely discredited, and because it specifically states "Some speculate".
