Simona Halep is the two-time defending champion.

Halep and Caroline Wozniacki are in contention for the WTA no. 1 singles ranking at the start of the tournament. Wozniacki must reach at least the semifinals in order to have a chance of claiming the top ranking from Halep. Halep will retain the no. 1 ranking if she reaches the final, even if Wozniacki wins the title.
