George Jacob in Aquarium of the Bay

George Jacob is the President & CEO of Bay Ecotarium/Bay.Org in San Francisco, that oversees a staff of 200 at its six institutions including the Aquarium of the Bay, The Bay Institute, Sea Lion Center, Eco Center at Heron’s Head Park, The Bay Model Alliance and the Bay Academy.[1]

Work

Trained at the Smithsonian, he attended the Birla Institute of Technology & Science, University of Toronto, Getty Leadership Institute at Claremont Graduate University and Yale School of Management. He is known as "one of the leading museum thinkers of our times". Hile is a Canadian Commonwealth Scholar. Jacob has lead the design-build of over 50 museums, nature parks, wetlands, sea, wildlife and science center assignments in various countries. Jacobs is the Founding Director of 4 museums in his three decade. Jacobs developed the first Masters Studio on Museum Design at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba, the first Executive Program on Cultural Leadership and Diplomacy at the University of Texas.

His 150+ opinion columns and editorials on interpretive planning, museum design, professional development, civic reach, sustainability, public art, exhibit design, master planning and advocacy, have appeared in many newspapers and publications. Author of 7 seminal books on the future of Museum Design and Practice, he currently serves on the Boards of ICOM Canada, ICOM-ICTOP, among others. He was the Project Director for the production of the 1812 Star-Spangled Banner permanent exhibit, a Smithsonian museum icon, re-dedicated to the nation by President George W. Bush in 2008. He is a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society.
