NTA stands for National Testing Agency. NTA was approved by the Union cabinet in November 2017. Government has appointed Vineet Joshi, who is also the former chairman of CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) as the First Director-General of NTA. Vineet Joshi will serve for a tenure of five years. National Testing Agency is a set up as an Autonomous and self-sustained organization that will conduct national level tests on a voluntary basis for the conduct of independent tests. The National Testing Agency is registered as a society under Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860.[1]
Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on 7 July 2018 (Saturday) in press conference has revealed that National Testing Agency (NTA) will be holding UGC-NET Dec 2018/ June 2019, NEET-UG 2019 will be held twice a year (February and May) and JEE Main-2019 will also be organized in Jan and April 2019.[2]
Finance
Union cabinet has granted an initial amount of ₹25-crore to NTA[3] to start its operations in the first year.
Members
The NTA will be chaired by an eminent educationist who will be appointed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. There will be a Board of Governors comprising members from user institutions. The CEO will be Director General (DG) appointed by Government and will be assisted by 9 verticals of academicians and experts. The administration of the NTA has been entrusted to the Governing Body, the first members[4] of which are as under:

Working of NTA
NTA will work with Government of India, UGC, AICTE, IITs, Universities, School Boards and state governments for research and develop tests for effective assessment of people. When fully operational, NTA will develop, administer and mark about 150 lakh candidates annually across the country and abroad in more than 500 cities and 5000 test centres. The NTAs tests will be scientifically prepared based on rigorous research and will be of the highest quality so that the user institutions can make a well informed decisions. NTA will conduct research and design assessments for improving selections by fair, valid and reliable instruments, expanding teaching and learning opportunities and ushering in an era of scientific testing in the country.
Examinations
As per the NTA 2019 Latest News, National Testing Agency (NTA) would start conducting NEET, JEE Main and NET entrance exams, which are currently organised by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), from the upcoming academic session. Addressing a press conference, Javadekar said the National Eligibility Test (NET) would be conducted in December, the JEE (Mains) would be conducted in January and April[5], and NEET would be held in February and May. Students can appear for JEE and NEET twice a year and the best score will be considered for admission.[6]
