Layton Mystery Tanteisha: Katori no Nazotoki File (Japanese: レイトン ミステリー探偵社 ~カトリーのナゾトキファイル~, Hepburn: Reiton Misuterī Tantei-sha ~Katorī no Nazotoki Fairu~, lit. "Layton Mystery Detective Agency: Kat's Mystery Solving Files") is a 2018 anime television series produced by Liden Films. Centering around characters from Level-5's 2017 video game, Layton's Mystery Journey, part of the Professor Layton franchise, the series began airing on Fuji TV's Adventure Sunday programming block from April 8, 2018. A manga adaptation by Hori Oritoka began seralization on March 20, 2018.

Plot

Taking place during the events of Millionaire's Conspiracy, the series follows Katrielle Layton, daughter of the renowned Professor Hershel Layton, who has set up the Layton Detective Agency alongside her assistant, Ernest Greeves, and a talking dog named Sherl. Together, they take on all kinds of requests to solve mysterious cases troubling their fellow Londoners.

Cast

The anime features an all new voice cast.[1]

  • Kana Hanazawa as Katrielle Layton - An enthusiastic young detective who aims to solve any case, no matter how strange.
  • Jūrōta Kosugi as Sherl - A talking dog adopted by Katrielle, who can only be understood by a select few.
  • Kyōsuke Ikeda as Noah Montoir / Ernest Greeves - Katrielle's devoted assistant at the Agency.
  • Yōhei Tadano as Darjeeling Aspoirot / Ercule Hastings - A police detective who often requests Katrielle's aid.
  • Hibiku Yamamura as Geraldine Royer / Emiliana Perfetti - A police profiler.
  • Kōichi Yamadera as Professor Hershel Layton - A legendary puzzle-solving archaeologist and father of Katrielle, who mysteriously disappeared when she was a child.
  • Sōma Saitō as Luke Triton - Layton's faithful assistant from years ago.

Production

The series was first officially revealed in December 2017, following a previous report that a Professor Layton anime was in production. The 50-episode series is produced by Liden Films and directed by Susumu Mitsunaka, with creative direction by Akihiro Hino, music by Tomohito Nishiura, and character design by Yoko Takada based on Takuzō Nagano's original designs. The series began airing in Japan as part of Fuji TV's Adventure Sunday programming block from April 8, 2018. Bomanbridge Media will distribute the series in other Asian territories.[2] The opening theme is "Change!" (チェンジっ!, Chenji!) by Kana Adachi, while the ending theme is "Daijoubu" (大丈夫, "It'll Be Alright") by Kana Hanazawa.[3]

A manga adaptation of the series by Hori Oritoka began serialization on March 20, 2018, in Shogakukan's monthly shōjo magazine, Ciao.[3]
