Bruce Flatt (born 1965) is a Canadian businessman and the the CEO of Brookfield Asset Management, appointed in 2002.[1][2] He has been referred to as called "Canada's Warren Buffet".[3][4]

Early life and career

Flatt was born in Winnipeg, Canada, in 1965. His father was the founder of the Investors Group, a mutual fund firm in Manitoba.[5] Following university, where Flatt worked as a chartered accountant at Ernst & Young.[6] In 1990, Flatt joined Brascan[7] and eventually became vice president of the company’s merchant bank. In 2000, he became chief executive of Brookfield Properties, a division of Brascan.[8] In 2002, Flatt was appointed CEO of Brascan, which re-branded to Brookfield in 2005.[9]

Awards and recognition

In 2018, Flatt was ranked 60th among the top 100 best-performing CEOs by Harvard Business Review[10] and in 2017, The Globe and Mail named him CEO of the year.[11] Forbes published a single-issue magazine on May 16, 2017 about Bruce Flatt entitled “World Builder.”[12]
