Ray Jacques Bassil (born 20 October 1988) is a Lebanese trapshooter. She has won an ISSF World Cup event and the gold medal at the 2015 Arab Shooting Championship. She has also twice represented Lebanon at Olympic Games.

Sporting career

In 2007 she was the bronze medalist at the Junior ISSF World Championship, held in Nicosia, Cyprus.[1]

She represented Lebanon at the 2012 Olympic Games in London,[2] and at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro where she finished 14th.

In 2015, she won the gold medal at the Arab Shooting Championship in Morocco.

In 2016, she won the gold medal at the ISSF World Cup that was held in Nicosia, Cyprus.[1] The event was held at the same range as the one at which she had won the Junior World bronze.[1]

Early life

She was encouraged to participate in sports shooting by her father, Jack Bassil. Ray started trap-shooting at the age of eight of age.

Ray started her professional competitive career at the age of 16 before considering her educational path.

Despite being a graduate and holder of a bachelor’s degree in food and beverage management from a top ranking Lebanese University – NDU, Ray still decided to continue her career with the sport.

She was first woman to win three consecutive World Cup Championship medals, 1 Gold and 2 Silver in 2016.[citation needed]

Ray is now focusing on winning the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics for Lebanon.

Awards and recognition

Ray Bassil has been chosen as one of the 60 Inspiring Lebanese to be portrayed in the book Those Who Inspire Lebanon, published in June 2018 by the publishing house Those Who Inspire Ltd.[3]
