The spotted barbtail (Premnoplex brunnescens) is a species of bird in the Furnariidae family. It is found in Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela.

Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Is often found creeping around mossy forest understory. Sometimes they will hang upside down like a nuthatch. Dark brown plumage with a warm buffy throat. Spots go down the chest. Both sexes are alike. Found either alone, in pairs, or following a mixed flock through the forest. [2]
