Jason Abraham Roberts is the professional name of American musician and producer Jason Roberts.[1][2][3] Roberts is best known for his collaborations with Norah Jones,[4][5][6][7] Hymns,[8] Ben Kweller,[9] and The Candles.[10]

Musical career

2004–2007: Ben Kweller

Roberts met Ben Kweller at The Living Room shortly after relocating to New York City. Kweller was about to embark on the On My Way world tour and searching for a new guitarist; Roberts quickly filled this role to play guitar and piano on the tour.[11][9] Roberts toured again with Kweller in 2006 in support of Ben Kweller (2006).[12]

2006–2010: Hymns

In fall 2006, Roberts formed Hymns with Brian Harding, Matt Shaw, and Tony Kent.[13] The band would later release the album Brother/Sister. This record was critically acclaimed by Spin Magazine[8] and MTV News.[14] Following this record, the band toured with Ben Kweller, The Lemonheads, Butch Walker, and Daniel Johnston. Later, Roberts and the Hymns released the albums Travel in Herds (2008) and Appaloosa (2009). Roberts and the other members of Hymns were Daniel Johnston's backing band for several tours as well as a 2014 show at the Hollywood Bowl.[15][16]

2010–Present: The Candles

Roberts is a member of The Candles.[17] The band has toured several times with The Lemonheads, acted as Evan Dando's backing band, and opened for Norah Jones on her Daybreaks World Tour.[18][19][20]

2012–Present: Norah Jones

Roberts is the lead guitarist in Norah Jones' band.[21] He toured extensively with her during the 2012-2013 Little Broken Hearts Tour [22][23] and in 2016-2017 for the Daybreaks World Tour. Roberts has appeared live with Jones on television and radio programs including Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,[24] Later... with Jools Holland,[25] Austin City Limits,[26] and the Late Show with David Letterman.[27][28]
