Edward Banayoti is a businessman based in Canada who, according to his own website, works in the Defence and Security Industry,[2] specialising in brokerage and export.[3]
Banayoti came to some public prominence in 2016 when he commenced talks with the Maltese government regarding the purchase of 49.4% of Air Malta.
Career
Banayoti started his entrepreneurial career in trading and real estate, where he purchased, and upgraded many hotels, which was then sold to a major hotel chain. He is also involved in commodities exports and trading from the American continent to Egypt and other African countries.[4]
In 2015, he established Defence Unlimited International, a defence and security contracting company headquartered in Canada with various subsidiaries around the globe and operating internationally with over 240 consultants and a few security sub-contractors.[5][4]
Banayoti is one of the international board members of International Centre for Democratic Transition, an international non-profit organization based in Budapest, Hungary.[6]
Personal life
Banayoti was born in Cairo on September 15, 1964 to a Greek mother and an Egyptian father. He moved to the Canada in his early twenties where he started his first business.
Banayoti has two daughters from his first marriage. In January 2016, Banayoti married Princess Aisha Bint Al Hussein.[7][8] The couple was divorced in Jordan in July 2016.[9]
