Vandals

Some people think it's fun to vandalise Wikipedia. It's not! Here are some suggestions to prevent vandalism:

  • Friends of gays should not be allowed to edit articles
One of the most active groups of vandals is overly proud friends and acquaintances of gays and lesbians. Therefore, Friends of gays and actuall gays should not be allowed to edit articles.
  • If You Must Vandalise, Vandalise Chickens
For the sake of accuracy, Wikipedia must cover Every Topic In The Universe Except Chickens.

Sadly, some people like to vandalise this page (and my talk page) instead of Chickens! So far this has happened eight times.

Hey! You! Please don't vandalise Wikipedia at all! But please do have a sense of humour!

Welcome to Wikipedia!

Dear Ollie: Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Wikipedia Boot Camp, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Wikipedians try to follow a strict policy of never biting new users. If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advice: please sign any dicussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD!

Feel Free to Directly contact me!!! I Love helping you guys out!! After all I was new here about 3 months ago!!Eagle (talk) (desk) 07:24, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kingston upon Hull

Hi Ollie, a great effort on changing this and bringing into line with other articles. It needed doing!

Hi. I replaced you message because it's generally considered best not to arbitrarily bite the heads off of newcomers, even when we're "sure" they're full of it. Being nice halps dissuade any angry retorts from them, getting them banned without giving them the opportunity to catch on to what we're about. - Hope you don't mind! - CobaltBlueTony 03:29, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, cool, you're right. I just banged in the suggested message off the template. It's easy to get a bit carried away sometimes! Ollie 03:31, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Better template

Hi Ollie! I was just doing some recent changes patrol and noticed your warning of a user who had posted an innapropriate article with {{test}}. I thought I might suggest a more tailored set of template for such situations: {{test1article}} created specifically for warning about innapropriate articles (and like many templates, there's {{test2article}} and higher for escalating warnings). If the article had been less nonsense, and more of a simple bio, {{vanity}} or {{nn-warn}} would have also fit the bill. Oh, and we need more new pages patrollers so keep up the great work! Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit 15:15, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent, thanks for that information! They strike a good balance between not biting heads off (see above!) and getting the point across. Ollie 15:32, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome.--Fuhghettaboutit 15:42, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

S'okay. I took the liberty of reverting all that unencyclopedic nonsense. If my understanding of WP:3RR is accurate, reverting obviously unencyclopedic material is acceptable, but they do encourage a rewrite to conform to WP:NPOV instead of reverting constantly. - CobaltBlueTony 17:42, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I tried a bit of a rewrite, but there wasn't a lot to work with. Anyhow, thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user page, and thanks for weighing in on the article! Ollie 17:46, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reminder

Thanks for the reminder about {{test-self}} regarding User talk:Cavsluver013. I added the {{test2} before I had noticed that my revert had failed because they had reverted it themselves, and totally forgot to remove it or change it to {{test-self}}. I'll be more alert in the future. —Krellis 00:58, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eek, sorry, I'm in a not-paying-enough-attention mode today, and didn't read your notice that you'd prefer replies on the talk page where the conversation originated. Sorry about that, consider my face officially red. —Krellis 01:05, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Health Wiki Research

A colleague and I are conducting a study on health wikis. We are looking at how wikis co-construct health information and create communities. We noticed that you are a frequent contributor to Wikipedia on health topics.

Please consider taking our survey here.

This research will help wikipedia and other wikis understand how health information is co-created and used.

We are from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The project was approved by our university research committee and members of the Wikipedia Foundation.

Thanks, --Sharlene Thompson 18:22, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've never contributed much to health topics, other than to revert vandalism, so I don't think I can be a lot of help to you. Ollie 18:30, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sherminator

I am not making up the info re Ian Bell being given the nickname. It was a sledge given to him by Warne in the current test and is being reported on Cricinfo etc. Cheers --165.228.217.234 04:29, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Varnas and Shudra Concept

Please don't misunderstand. There is nothing insulting to call any Hindu a shudra. Understand Varnashrama dharma in a present situation. Also read ShivDharma concept in Maharashtr. If Maratha feel insuting to be called as Shudra then you can convert to other religion. Being lower-cast to Brahmins is Dharma for every Hindu. Shudra123 16:03, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
