8 Patellofemoral Pain article

[edit]

I'm sorry, I'm a bit new to wikipedia, but could you please explain why you undid my edit for alternative therapies for Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome? There are two citations in that section, the first one says that Acupuncture has not shown to be an effective treatment (citation 21). However for citation 22 (found here), states in the conclusion summary: "Based on the results of trials exhibiting a sufficient level of quality, treatments that were effective in decreasing pain and improving function in patients with PFPS were acupuncture, quadriceps strengthening, the use of a resistive brace, and the combination of exercises with patellar taping and biofeedback."

Additionally, if you look at the actual text of the review by following the pdf link on this page, you'll see on page 14 that it states "Jensen et al26 assessed the effect of acupuncture in the treatment of PFPS and found significant improvements in pain and function in those patients who received acupuncture. This trial was assigned a score of 83 points (Table 5). The only item in the scale for which this trial did not meet the minimum level of quality was the item related to the description of randomization (Table 2). Based on the results of this study and in light of its quality score, acupuncture appears to be effective in the treatment of PFPS."

I understand that my edit may not have been in the correct format, could you please make the necessary edit in the correct format? As of now, the article says that there is no evidence that acupuncture is an effective treatment of PFPS, which is demonstrably false based on the most recent scientific evidence. Thanks.

108.48.165.58, I did not entirely undo your edit. I was not sure so started a conversation here with other editors about the best way forward. If you feel the wrong decision has been made please feel free to comment further:
The primary source was removed because wikipedia should be mainly using mainstream textbooks, systematic reviews and meta analyses as reliable sources... please see WP:MEDRS for more info.
Not sure if this message will reach you since you also edited from a different IP 192.104.54.179, so I will also leave a message on the Patellofemoral pain syndrome talk page. Matthew Ferguson 57 (talk) 18:37, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I've been editing between home and work which probably explains the different IPs, but thank you for directing me to the right place to discuss this! I posted a comment there trying to explain my case, could you review it when you get a chance? --192.104.54.179 (talk) 13:47, 29 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Necrotizing sialometaplasia, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Dorsal, P63 and MIB1. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I have noted your comment in my talkpage. I will look into this. If there is anything specific let me know about that. If you are referring to LactoPeroxidase entry in mouthwash, I just copied the text(and reference) from another wiki article. I will look at it again later J mareeswaran (talk) 11:40, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stomatitis hatnote

[edit]

Could you explain why you reverted my edit? Stomatitis is commonly confused with what gastritis is, most likely by people quite unfamiliar with any medical-related terms and probably due to the origin of the word. Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 04:52, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Raykyogrou0 already gave reason for revert in edit summary. What evidence is there that these two particular terms are commonly confused+? Matthew Ferguson (talk) 05:38, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You said there isn't a need "to distinguish between other "-itis" terms, of which there a re a great many." Except this particular term can be easily confused with gastritis, since in layman's terms, the organ is referred to as "stomach". Hence, some people would think "stoma-"+"-itis" refers to the inflammation of the stomach lining.Raykyogrou0 (Talk)
@Matthew Ferguson 57: Hello. Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 15:46, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Raykyogrou0 understand your reasoning more now. Still unconvinced this is required. Perhaps some evidence that these terms are commonly confused would support your argument. Matthew Ferguson (talk) 15:54, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure people bothered to actually conduct a study about this. It would seem to be more a matter of common sense.Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 12:35, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Raykyogrou0 few others [1] are not convinced this is necessary. Please feel welcome to seek wider consensus. Regards, Matthew Ferguson (talk) 13:55, 23 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any more to say on the subject? Does this need an article of its own or could it be merged?Rathfelder (talk) 16:49, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rathfelder, Not sure where it could be merged. Salivary gland disorders? Although strictly speaking is not a disorder of the glands themselves but any collection of saliva in the tissues. I can expand it more certainly. Matthew Ferguson (talk) 17:12, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Happy for you to expand it. Rathfelder (talk) 17:16, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I still feel there should be a little separate section on this on the oral candidiasis page. It is mentioned on the page, I know, but not very "clear" to be seen. If it was mentioned as a separate part, people would notice it faster. I think I'll add it again, re-arrange it and maybe that way it can stay there? When I went through the article, I found it rather "hidden" information Garnhami (talk) 07:38, 29 April 2017 (UTC). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Garnhami (talkcontribs) 07:34, 29 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Matthew, just wanted to extend an invitation to a wikiproject you might be interested after I saw your expansion of Rubus tricolor. It's WikiProject Hypericaceae, a new and pretty small project that covers the St. John's wort family, Hypericaceae, which consists of around 600 species and articles total. The narrow focus lets us create really high-quality articles for the species in the family, and there is an unusually high amount of info out there on this particular clade of plants. If you're interested just let me know, or if you have any related or unrelated plants article questions, feel free to drop me a line! Fritzmann2002 T, c, s, t 17:41, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for msg @Fritzmann2002:, I'm only really interested in plants that I can eat, or that have some other use, particularly in the context of forest gardening. I am fairly unfamiliar with anything in this family apart from having heard of St John's Wort itself. If you think any of the species are edible or otherwise of importance to forest gardening (I'm not sure if any are or not), I might well have a go at expanding an article on said species. Kind regards, Matthew Ferguson (talk) 21:24, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
