Kingdoms of Fire is a historical drama television series about the reign of Ottoman's Selim I and Mamluks's Tuman bay II, created by Muhammed Abdulmalik and directed by British director Peter Webber.[1]
The 14-episodes series which is produced by Geomedia Studios with a budget of $40 millions debuted on MBC channels on 17 November 2019 and planned to be on Netflix afterwards.[2][3]
Overview
The series depicts events that took place between Egypt, Syria and the Ottoman empire between the 15th and the 16th century. It demonstrates the competition between the Mamluks and the Ottomans over the control of the middle east, through the rise of two main characters, Tuman bay II, the last Sultan of the Mamluks in Cairo, and Sultan Salim the I of Istanbul.[4]
Criticism
Multiple comments from Turkish side after airing of fire episode considered the show a targeted harassment and an anti-Ottoman.[5]
