Elebits is an upcoming video game for Nintendo's Wii console by Konami. It is slated for release in mid-December.

Gameplay

Elebits are creatures that serve as an energy source for the world, which strangely, suddenly go on strike. The name is a portmanteau of "electricity", for their power, and "bits", for their tiny size. As the player hunts the Elebits, the game world will slowly evolve.[citation needed]

The player manipulates objects in the world to hunt for Elebits, using the Wii controller as a "physics gun" similar to the Gravity Gun device in Half-Life 2. As more Elebits are collected, the world's energy is restored and players can gradually use more powerful electrical appliances. Several previews compare the game to Pikmin and Katamari Damacy due to the similar art style and character design. Screenshots have shown that twisting the Wii remote can help you interact with the world, like twisting doorknobs open.

At the 2006 DigitalLife Expo, a playable demo of the game was shown.

Multiplayer

At the 2006 Leipzig Games Convention, Konami confirmed that the game would support up to 4 players in multiplayer mode.[2] The game may also be one of the first Wii titles to support online play.[3]

Plot

Template:Spoiler Elebits are cute living beings that contain a mysterious form of energy. They have lived in harmony with people for a very long time. One day there was a powerful lightning storm in Kai's home town. All the power has gone out, and the normally friendly Elebits have started to act strangely as well. The games main character and protagonist is Kai, but Kai's parents have left him at home to determine the cause of these strange activities. Kai really wants to watch his favorite TV show, but he can't since the power is out. He decides that it is the Elebits' fault, and he gets his Dad's Capture Gun. With the Capture Gun, Kai vows to capture all of the Elebits in the house, no matter what!

The Elebits

Blue Elebit: A fast-moving Elebit that can create a smoke screen to escape trouble instantly, leaving an image of itself behind. Impetuous and mischievous, Blue Elebits love it when humans try to catch them.

Large Yellow Elebit: Yellow Elebits attract smaller Elebits to increase in size, becoming the largest of all normal Elebits. For some reason, they become unruly in this state and like to throw objects at people that approach them.

Small Yellow Elebit: Generally warm-natured and innocent, Yellow Elebits are weak alone but can combine with other into one large Elebit. They love cookies and other sweet foods.

Gray Elebit: This most powerful of the commonly seen Elebits was only recently discovered and as of yet its true nature and abilities remain a mystery. It appears to be more stoic than other Elebits.

Black Elebits: These friendly Elebits like to bound up to humans, but the sharp spines on their back make them unpopular. They fling themselves in the air when startled or threatened.

Pink Elebits: An extremely rare legendary Elebit that was once thought to grant good fortune when found. They always travel in groups of three and are extremely fast and difficult to capture. Template:Endspoiler

Edit Mode

Elebits producer Shingo Mukaitoge has stated that one of the modes in the game is an "Edit Mode." In Edit Mode, players can create their own stages by placing different kinds of objects and Elebits throughout any of the more than 25 stages in the game. One can also adjust the gameplay by changing the amount of watts needed for completion, how strong the gravity is, or what kind of items the player can use.[4]

Online Connectivity

Elebits will also utilize Wii's online service WiiConnect24. In single player and Edit Mode, players will be able to take screenshots and send them to other Wii consoles.
