Backbone is the 33rd studio album by British rock band Status Quo. It was released worldwide on 6 September 2019 and debuted at no. 6 on the UK albums chart,[1] making it the band's 25th UK top ten[2] and their highest-charting album of entirely original material since 1982's eponymous 1+9+8+2. Backbone is the first album to be released by the band since the death of rhythm guitarist Rick Parfitt, who had been credited on every prior Status Quo album.

Speaking about the album, Rossi was very proud and said: "This new material had to be seriously good. Quo have achieved so much and meant so much to too many people for the quality to slip now." [...] "Losing Rick was hard to bear but, through Richie Malone, who was inspired to pick up a guitar by him, we can not only keep going but actually pick up the pace." "The energy that he and drummer Leon Cave bring to Quo can’t be underestimated. I wasn’t sure I had another album in me but I couldn’t be more proud of Backbone." He added: "I hope the fans love it, but you can’t please everyone and I’m not going to start trying to now." The title track was released as the first single, with a promo video.[3] The second single, Liberty Lane, was released in August 2019[4], but the video for it was released in September.[5]
