Julie Patricia Hamill (December 13, 1971) is a UK-based author and radio presenter who has written three books.[1][2][3][4][5] Hamill has also contributed articles to Sabotage Times,[6][7] and Louder Than War. She presents London’s famous Rock n Roll Book Club, Hamill Time on Boogaloo Radio and runs Manchester’s Mozarmy Meet.

Early life and career

Hamill spent a significant part of her early life, till she was 18, in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire.[1] Her first employment would involve the selling and management of creative advertising campaigns for companies including Saatchi & Saatchi, Bartle Bogle Hegarty and Ogilvy.[8] In 2011, Hamill achieved a First Class Honours Degree in Creative Writing.[8]

Writing Work

Her book, 15 Minutes With You: Interviews With Smiths/Morrissey Collaborators and Famous Fans (2015), is a compendium of interviews with individuals associated with the singer Morrissey taken over a three-year period.[9][10] According to a report in Kilburn Times, Hamill first saw Morrissey in 1985, when she was 13 years old. Since then, her curiosity about Morrissey and his work has grown.[11] As per a report in Record Collector, Hamill has continued her interviews of individuals closely associated with Morrissey even after the publication of the book via her blog site.[12][13]

In November 2017, Hamill released her second book, Frank – the first novel of a three-book series – which she finished writing in 2012.[1] Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser reported in January 2018 that the book is "set in 1980s Airdrie and tells the story of a man grieving for his late wife" and follows "his journey to find happiness again".[1]

Hamill is a regular writer and contributor of published articles[14][15] by the Louder Than War website[16]

In October 2019, Hamill released her third book, Jackie - the second book in the Life and Soul Trilogy.[5] The Daily Record described it as “a real love letter” to her home town.[5]

Radio Work

In November 2018, Hamill began presenting her own radio show on Boogaloo Radio called Hamill Time.[17][18] This show is broadcast via the World's first 24 hour radio station broadcasting from a pub - The Boogaloo in Highgate, North London.[19] Shows include themed playlists, requests, interviews and special guests - which are later archived on Mixcloud. "Moz Army"

Julie Hamill is the founding member of the "Moz Army" online community that celebrates all things Morrissey. It began via a Twitter page in 2009, uses the "#MozArmy" hashtag and now has just under 4300 followers.[20] The growth and popularity of this community lead to an annual "MozArmy Meet" being established by Hamill in 2013. Events would include guest bands, discos and tours[21] The Manchester Evening News has twice described this event as "one of the biggest fan gatherings of its kind in the world."[22][23]
