Choti Sarrdaarni is an Indian drama television series that premiered on 1 July 2019 on Colors TV.[1] It stars Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia and Avinesh Rekhi.[2]

Plot

Meher Kaur Dhillion is the daughter of Kulwant Kaur, the village sarpanch. She is a bubbly, carefree and happy go lucky girl.

Meher falls in love with Manav and becomes pregnant with his child. Kulwant, being a greedy woman, refuses to accept Manav as he is financially unstable. She kills Manav and asks Meher to marry Sarabjit Singh Gill, a widower with a five year old kid Param. Meher refuses to marry Sarabjit at first but later agrees to save her unborn child from her mother's ill intentions.

The story then revolves around the blossoming love between Sarabjeet and Meher.

The series is set in the backdrop of Amritsar in Punjab.[4]

Speaking about her role, “As a newcomer, it was a strong character to play, given that like every young girl Meher also has dreams about the way her life would go and she is ready to take on everybody and everything to fulfill them,” said Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia.[5]

Avinesh Rekhi said,"I will be essaying the role of a politician, Sarabjit, who is a single parent and a loving husband. He meets Meher at a crossroad but accepts her with open arms and gives a new meaning to her life. The concept of Choti Sarrdaarni is very promising and comes with a powerful message and I am certain that the audience will love me in this new avatar."[5]

Kevina Tak who is a female child artist was roped to play the role of a boy named Parmeet Singh Gill in the series.[6]

Reception

The show has been consistently in top 10 even at 7.30 pm slot.The show topped trp charts in week 43,2019 with 7006 impressions .the show was placed at 2 nd spot with 6388 and 6854 in week 44 and week 47 respectively . The show was placed at 2 nd spot in week 3 ,2020 with 7316 becoming colors most watched show by beating highly rated naagin 4.The show gained staggering 7648 impressions in week 4 2020 and helped channel to gain its highest grp.

Crossover

In December 2019, Choti Sarrdaarni and Vidya had a crossover while Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Sai Manjrekar appeared to promote their upcoming film Dabangg 3.[7]

Adaptations

Choti Sarrdaarni is remade in Tamil as Uyire on Colors Tamil.[8]
