Function overview: removing disallowed DISPLAYTITLE modifications, cases of DEFAULTSORT that don't make sense and behaviour switches that are not applicable, in Draft space.
Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: manual.
Programming language(s): AutoWikiBrowser.
Source code available: N/A.
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#DISPLAYTITLE Category discussion
Edit period(s): weekly or thereabouts.
Estimated number of pages affected: about 600 initially, then estimating a few tens per week.
Namespace(s): Draft.
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): yes.
Function details: a few examples:
- Draft:Premjit Sen has {{DISPLAYTITLE:Premjit Sen}}, which is a failed attempt to make the page seem like a regular article. It also has {{DEFAULTSORT:Premjit_Sen}}, which doesn't make sense for articles about persons. VisualEditor users often apply defaultsort when it appears that displaytitle has no effect.
- Draft:Mapline has __NOEDITSECTION__; this has an effect, but it doesn't make sense to use it on this page.
- Draft:Khurram Kayani has __INDEX__, which is a failed attempt to make the page show up in search engines.
- Draft:Tendencia (band) has {{DEFAULTSORT:Tendencia_(band)}} which is superfluous and doesn't make sense.
Rationale for removing bad wikicode like this from pages, regardless of whether they have an effect and regardless whether it is flagged by a tracking category: editors copy wikicode constructs from other pages. The less they see bad code, the less likely they'll be to introduce bad code themselves.
Behaviour switches that will be removed via AWB regex: __NEWSECTIONLINK__, __NONEWSECTIONLINK__, __NOGALLERY__, __HIDDENCAT__, __EXPECTUNUSEDCATEGORY__, __NOCONTENTCONVERT__, __NOCC__, __NOTITLECONVERT__, __NOTC__, __START__, __END__, __INDEX__, __STATICREDIRECT__ and __NOGLOBAL__.
Behaviour switches that might be manually removed if they have no effect: __NOTOC__, __FORCETOC__ and __TOC__.
Defaultsort might be manually removed if the argument is equal or equivalent to the page title, or if it's equal to a removed displaytitle argument.
Discussion
[edit]Approved for trial (100). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Ideally I would like to see a reasonable cross-section of the issues listed (i.e. don't do all 100 edits for DISPLAYTITLE issues). When finished, please post the results, but you don't necessarily have to indicate which edits are which unless you want to. Primefac (talk) 21:39, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Trial complete. The focus was on DISPLAYTITLE, the edit summary says whether other magic words were removed as well; I think there was a reasonable spread of issues. Not sure what you mean by "posting the results". --–bdijkstra (talk) 09:54, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- @Bdijkstra: "posting the results" means linking to the contribs page (preferably a permalink to the edits for this trial). It is especially important when dealing with very active bots. --TheSandDoctor Talk 20:11, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Approved. Looks good to me. As per usual, if amendments to - or clarifications regarding - this approval are needed, please start a discussion on the talk page and ping. --TheSandDoctor Talk 20:14, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
