Kith-Kanan Silvanos (2308 - 1892 PC) is a fictional character from the Dragonlance series of novels. He is the Silvanesti elven king. His mother is Nirakina Silver Moon, and his father is Sithel Silvanos, Speaker of the Stars. His twin brother is named Sithas Silvanos.

Life Up to the Kinslayer Wars

Kith-Kanan's father is the Speaker of the Stars of Silvanesti, and so Kith-Kanan is born as royalty. He has many wonders that many have never seen before, including a griffin named Arcuballis. He loves an elf woman by the name of Hermathya Oakleaf, but one day, his father announces that Hermathya and Sithas, Kith-Kanan's brother, would be married, which angers Kith-Kanan. He is angered so much that he flees for the west on Acruballis. He lands in a forest, and falls asleep. The next day, he meets a young elf by the name of Mackeli. Mackeli is in the care of a Kagonesti, or Wilder elf, Anaya. After meeting Anaya, he decides to live with them for the time being, and they teach him to live in the wild. Soon Anaya and Kith-Kanan aemarried, and shortly after Anaya becomes pregnant with Kith-Kanan's first child. The child is, however, not destined to be born for years, because soon the Empire of Ergoth, a large western empire, invades the woods. They are harvesting trees for a fleet of ships in their homeland. Having learned to appreciate the wild, Kith-Kanan decides to help Anaya and Mackeli fight the humans. However, Kith-Kanan is kidnapped. Anaya manages to rescue him, but dies in the process. Anaya turns into a tree upon dying, and many years later her child is born from that tree. With nothing left for him in the wild, Kith-Kanan returns home with Mackeli to find his nation preparing to go to war.

After returning to Silvanost, he confides what he had done in the west to his father, but he only mentions Anaya as an elf he had married. The Silvanesti elves, being very proud, are angered at Kith-Kanan for marrying of "impure blood". He also discovers that Hermathya is unhappy with Silvanos, and she attempts to make love to Kith-Kanan. Kith-Kanan refuses, making Hermathya extremely angry. His father calls a meeting to decide what will be done with the humans. They decide that the Silvanesti are to raise an army, which Kith-Kanan is to command. Kith-Kanan eventually leads the army west to where the Empire is attacking. Hermathya sends assassins after Kith-Kanan, which are defeated, but Mackeli is killed in the proceedings. Later, Kith-Kanan builds Sithelbec, a city on the plains named after his father.

Kith-Kanan invites his father to see the new city that he has built. Upon arrival, Sithel decides to go with Kith-Kanan on a hunt. However, in a disastrous turn of events, Sithel is assassinated on the hunt, and with that, a new Speaker (Sithas, Kith-Kanan's twin) is named, and the Kinslayer Wars begin.

The Kinslayer War

Kith-Kanan is now leading the forces of the elves in the Kinslayer Wars. His army is made up of Silvanesti elves, Kagonesti elves, human mercenaries, and even dwarves. A human woman named Suzine des Quivalin meets and marries Kith-Kanan during the war, and she bears him two half-elven children, a son called Ulvian and a daughter called Verhanna. In the end, the war's climax is a final battle between Kith-Kanan and the Ergothian general. Kith-Kanan is nearly killed, however before the finishing blow can be struck, a giant saves Kith-Kanan's life by stomping on the Ergoth general. With the end of the war, the Swordsheath Scroll is signed and Kith-Kanan is granted the western lands he had previously resided in.

Qualinesti

Qualinesti is born as a fledgling nation out of the western forests where Kith-Kanan once lived. He sets up a government similar to Silvanesti's; the Heads of Household still meet with the Speaker, however the Speaker of the Stars is now replaced by a Speaker of the Suns. The first Speaker is Kith-Kanan himself. Many Silvanesti find promise in Qualinesti; some migrate there, but Sithas tries to keep them in his nation, where he thinks they belong.

During this time, Anaya's Tree splits apart and Kith-Kanan's child, Silveran Kanan was born. Being the true firstborn as well as a pure blooded elf, Silveran is made next in line to be Speaker. This angers Ulvian, who was ready to kill for the crown. Ulvian, using his magic, causes Silveran to see evil in Kith-Kanan and eventually Silveran tries to kill Kith-Kanan. Mortally wounded, Kith-Kanan pardons Ulvian and stuck to his word that Silveran would be Speaker. Kith-Kanan is entombed in the Sla-Mori, a secret passage between Qualinesti and Pax Tharkas. His royal guard in death, made up of undead spirits, still protects him to this day. Tanis Half-Elven receives his sword, Wyrmslayer, which rests on Kith-Kanan's tomb, many years later
