Hungarian Spectrum is a daily blog covering current political and social developments in Hungary. It was created in 2007 by Eva Balogh[1], who had previously taught Eastern European History at Yale University where she had been Dean of Morse College from 1973-1978 [2]. Her special field of interest is the diplomatic history of the short lived Hungarian Soviet Republic in 1919 and its aftermath in 1920.[3]
She has close ties with Hungarian social-liberal parties[4] and Ferenc Gyurcsány, and often writes entries against the Orbán-government. She is also a regular guest in Hungarian leftist television networks[5][6], and publishes opinion pieces in the left-liberal Népszava.[7][8][9]
Hungarian Spectrum has been published every day since June 27, 2007[10] and has been archived in the Library of Congress since 2013[11]. Most of the articles are researched and written by Professor Balogh, based on primary sources (sometimes technical ones) in Hungarian, German and English, analyzing current developments for the nonspecialist reader from a historian's perspective. There are also occasional guest articles.[12]
