ANTV was launched on January 1, 1993 as a local television station in Lampung. In the same year ANTV were licensed for nationwide broadcasting, and moved the operation to Jakarta. The first programming it produced itself was live coverage of the general session of the People's Consultative Assembly on March 1, 1993.

On April 30, 2006, Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation through STAR TV and Fox International Channels bought a 20% stake in ANTV. By Indonesia law, foreign companies can only have a 20% stake in local media companies. In 2009, Murdoch’s StarTV divested all of its shares ownership in ANTV, and through its subsidiary Fast Plus Limited, obtained a 7.5% share ownership in VIVA.[4]

ANTV repositioned to be a TV station that focuses on entertainment content for families, women, and children. Lifestyle and entertainment content broadcast by ANTV have attracted viewers nationwide. Today, ANTV has 24 relay stations covering 155 cities across Indonesia and reaches 130 million people.
