The 2020 Eifel Grand Prix (officially known as the Formula 1 Aramco Großer Preis der Eifel 2020) is a Formula One motor race that is scheduled to take place on 11 October 2020 at the Nürburgring in Nürburg, Germany. It will also be the first Formula One race held at the Nürburgring since 2013. The race is scheduled to be the eleventh round of the 2020 Formula One World Championship.

Background

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic

The opening rounds of the 2020 championship were heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Several Grands Prix were cancelled or postponed after the aborted opening round in Australia, prompting the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile to draft a new calendar. This will be the first time since the 2013 German Grand Prix that the GP-Strecke layout will host a Formula One Grand Prix.[1] Up to 20,000 fans are expected to attend the race with social distancing measures in place.[2]

Entrants

The drivers and teams are due to be the same as the season entry list with no additional stand-in drivers for the race. Ferrari Driver Academy drivers Mick Schumacher and Callum Ilott are due to make their debut in the first practice session, driving for Alfa Romeo Racing in place of Antonio Giovinazzi and for Haas in place of Romain Grosjean respectively.[3]

Tyres

Pirelli will bring C2, C3 and C4 compound tyres for teams to use in the race.[4]

Notes

  1. ^ The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic saw several Grands Prix cancelled or rescheduled. The revised calendar consists of seventeen races.
