Akintunde Sawyerr (born 6 October 1964) is a Nigerian diplomat and professional in logistics, healthcare, and agricultural development. He is currently the 1st Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), appointed in April 2024.[1][2][3]
Early Life and Education
Akintunde Sawyerr was born on O ctober 1964, in London, England, His educational journey began at the Royal Russell School, followed by Igbobi College in Lagos, Nigeria. He then pursued higher education at the University of London, earning a B.Sc in Chemistry.[4]
Career
Sawyerr’s career and positions were mostly held in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Some roles include:
- Head Sub Saharan Africa at Medtronic (2013-2018).
- International Advisor for the Supply Chain and Logistics Group in the United Arab Emirates (2010).[5]
- Director Sub-Saharan Africa at EBRAM Investments in Saudi Arabia (2009).
- Head Life Sciences, Consumer Products, and Oil & Gas covering 21 countries in the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey for DHL (2007).
- Head of Supply Chain for London at DHL EXEL Supply Chain (2007).[6]
Contributions to Agriculture
Sawyerr found the Produce Export Development Association (PEDA), formerly known as AFGEAN. This cooperative empowered over 2000 farmers, it focused on tackling post-harvest losses and trade barriers. His efforts have fostered strategic partnerships with international agencies, driving sustainable solutions and positive change in the agricultural sector.[7][8][9][10]
