Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (Formarly known as Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha) (CCRAS) is an autonomous body of the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, for the formulation, co-ordination, development and promotion of research in the fields of Ayurveda and Siddha medicine and managed a national network of 40 Research Institutes, Centres and Units. Established in 1978, under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860, the council as the result of after bifurcation of the erstwhile Central Council for Research in Indian Medicine and Homeopathy into four different Research Councils, the council headquarters are situated in Janakpuri, New Delhi.[1][2]

Research programs

The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (Formarly known as Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha) broadly runs research programs in areas such as Clinical, Drug, Family Welfare, Literary, Nutraceutical, Ayurvedic Cosmetics and Bio-medical Instrumentation of Panchakarma, through its 33 nationwide research Institutes, Centres and Units. These research programs have been further classified as Clinical Research including Health Care Research, Drug Research including Medico-Ethno-Botanical Survey Programme, Cultivation of Medicinal Plants, Musk Deer Breeding Programme, Pharmacognosy Research Studies, Plant Tissue Culture, Drug Standardization, Pharmacological/Toxicological studies, Family Welfare Research (Clinical and Experimental), Reproductive and Child Health Care Research, Amchi Research Programme, Literary Research along with Documentation and Publication.[3]
