Phyllip Dion Devine: A Multi-Talented Artist from Cincinnati’s Evanston Neighborhood
Phyllip Dion Devine/ Phyllip Dion/ Dion, a renowned figure in the entertainment industry, was born and raised in the Evanston neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio sometime in the '70"s we're told. (although he will neither confirm nor deny this) .He grew up in a musically rich environment, with his grandmother, the late Charnchia Hayes-Burse, being a significant influence on his musical journey. The niece of world-renowned Tenor, Roland Hayes, and a great musician in her own right, Charnchia instilled in Phyllip a deep appreciation for music and the arts.
Growing up in a close-knit family, Phyllip’s childhood was filled with love, support, and faith. Surrounded by his five siblings: Crystal, Carmen, Angela, Jessica, and Lenard; plus His parents Austin Summers and the late Venita Burse-Summers, the family attended church regularly, which further nurtured Phyllip’s spiritual growth and love for music. His best friend of 39 years, Nicole Cook-Stephens, has been by his side throughout his journey (Instagram, 2021).
Church played a pivotal role in Phyllip’s upbringing. He began singing in the choir at an early age and quickly developed a passion for music. The communal experience of singing with his peers and leading the congregation in hymns fostered a strong sense of connection and purpose within him. This foundation would later inspire him to pursue a career as a singer-songwriter and actor.
Devine’s career took an unexpected turn when he entered the adult entertainment business. However, he continued to nurture his passions for interior design and event planning. His impeccable culinary skills are another testament to his versatility (LinkedIn, 2021).
Throughout his life, Phyllip has remained dedicated to giving back to his community. He is an active philanthropist, using his platform to raise awareness for various social causes and support local initiatives that promote education, arts, and cultural enrichment. He also is passionate about ending the stigma surrounding mental health and encouraging more people, especially black people, to take their mental health more seriously.
