Fanta cake (German: Fantakuchen)[1] is a cake that originated in Germany, made with a sponge base. The key ingredient of the sponge base is Fanta or sparkling mineral water; thus, the cake base becomes fluffier than usual sponge-based cakes.[2] The top can be either a simple lemon glaze or a creamy layer made of heavy sour cream, whipped cream, sugar, and canned mandarins. Different variants of the cake can use either a light sponge base or one having a darker color achieved through the use of cocoa, while the topping can be made using quark.[3] Fanta cake is a cake mainly served at birthday parties or bake sales.[4]
