==History==

This great institution (George Washington Carver High, which is now a middle school) opened in 1938 to all black students that resided in Dade County, FL. The first Miss. Carver High is still alive today, Ms. Gillin. Carver served students from K-12. Students that had an experience at this school when it was a high school, students of this school of all grades would say the black national anthem every morning before the school day begun. After schools integrated in the school year of 1966-1967 school year, Carver became the middle school that it is today that hold grades 6-8 and then the tradition of the black anthem stopped for the students. Many folk thought that Carver was stationed in Coconut Grove, FL and it was not until later in life we all found out that it is west of Brooker Street and that makes it in Coral Gables. The students that were sophomores, juniors, and seniors went over to Coral Gables to finish up the rest of the school years.
Some residents had thought that the school was in [[Coconut Grove]], Florida, because it is positioned west of Brooker Street. However, it is actually located in Coral Gables. Therefore, when the school converted to a middle school, the former high school students (i.e., sophomores, juniors, and seniors) were transferred to Coral Gables schools to complete high school

George Washington Carver Middle School is a middle school located in Coral Gables, Florida, under the supervision of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The school opened in the 1920s as a black school, for black students residing in Dade County, Florida; although it traces its beginning to an earlier private school for black children, informally known as "The Little Schoolhouse," which opened in 1899.[1] When the school first opened, it served students from K-12.

After Florida schools desegregated during the 1966-1967 school year, Carver became a middle school, serving students in grades 6-8, a position it continues to hold.

Some residents had thought that the school was in Coconut Grove, Florida, because it is positioned west of Brooker Street. However, it is actually located in Coral Gables. Therefore, when the school converted to a middle school, the former high school students (i.e., sophomores, juniors, and seniors) were transferred to Coral Gables schools to complete high school

The school includes four foreign languages (Spanish, French, German, and Italian) in its curriculum. The Italian program is the most recent, having been added in the 2009-2010 school year. All of the language teachers are from the native country of that specific language, and speak the language fluently.

The school is named for George Washington Carver.[1] Its colors are green and orange, and its mascot is the Hornet.
