Killnet is a pro-Russian hacker group, known for its cyberattacks towards government institutions in several countries during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.[1][2][3]

Five Eyes alert

The Five Eyes intelligence alliance issued a warning about attacks on critical infrastructure by Russian-aligned groups, including Killnet, in April 2022.[4][2]

Attacks on Romania

Killnet were behind attacks on Romanian government websites from 29 April 2022 to 1 May 2022.[3]

Attacks on Moldova

Following explosions in unrecognized Transnistria, the Information and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova reported that the Russian hacking group Killnet had launched a series of cyberattacks against websites of Moldovan official authorities and institutions. This was days after the attack on Romanian websites.[5]

Attacks on Czech Republic

Killnet claimed responsibility for attacks on Czech state institution web sites in April 2022.[6]

Attacks on Italy

The websites of Italian National Health Institute and Automobile Club d'Italia were attacked shortly before the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.[1] The website of the Italian senate was attacked and taken down for an hour in the same attack.[1]

Attack on Eurovision 2022

Killnet made a failed attempt to shut down the website of the Eurovision Song Contest with a DDoS attack.[1] After the attack they threatened to attack 10 European countries, including Italy.[1]

Cyberwar with Anonymous

The Anonymous collective has officially announced a cyberwar with the hacker group Killnet.[7]
