Kumki (Tamil: கும்கி) (English: Elephant Caretaker) is a 2012 Tamil film directed by Prabu Solomon. The movie marks the debut of Vikram Prabhu.[1][2] The story revolves around a mahout (portrayed by Vikram) and his trained kumki elephant, which are used to guide wild elephants back to the forest to minimize the destruction of properties and fields of nearby villages.[3][4] The film is being produced by director N. Lingusamy on his banner Thirupathi Brothers. The filming which was launched in July 2011 released on December 14, 2012 to highly positive reviews.[5] The film will also be dubbed and released in Telugu as Gajaraju.[6]

Production

The film which was earlier titled as Komban, was shot across the forests of Kerala and Karnataka[7]. The film was shot at Jog falls at Karnataka[8]. Later, some scenes were shot in Kerala in dense jungles[9]. For the climax portion, producers bought two-acres of land to shoot a scene where elephants destroy the land[10].

Release

The film has received a "U" certificate from the Indian Censor Board.[11] Release was initially scheduled for Diwali but due to post-production works[12], it was postponed to December 14, 2012.[13] K. E. Gnanavel Raja's Studio Green has distribution rights.[14]

One India Entertainment gave Kumki a 3.0 out of 5 saying that the movie is dragging at subject makes it engaging affair. However, the story does not have twists or turns and flows without surprising you a lot of time. And also, the climax is predictable.[15] Behindwoods.com gave Kumki a 3.0 out of 5 saying that 'Kumki definitely lives up to the hype. The film's music has been composed by D.Imman, who joined with Prabu Solomon. The audio was launched on July 26.[17][18][19][20][21] Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan had participated in the function.[22]
