Our Youth Social Community (OYSC),[1] is a non-profit organization headquartered in Andhra Pradesh, India.[2][3]

History

Our Youth Social Community was started in 2017 in Vijayawada, initially with the main motive to help marginalized people like laborers by providing food packets to them.[4] Later on, the organization branched out in a new direction with a campaign to spread awareness about menstruation and hygiene.[2]

Initially, the members bought sanitary pads made by popular brands from stores in bulk to distribute to the girls and women in the poorer sections of society. Recognizing that store-bought sanitary pads are non-biodegradable and harmful due to that, they came up with the idea of producing sanitary pads made of 100 percent biodegradable materials. The NGO started producing a three-layered sanitary pad made up of bamboo, banana pulp, banana fiber, and corn starch plastic, which would make the product degradable within 7 months of discharge.[2][5][3][6]

Formation

The initial formation of the organization consisted of Sohan Pappu, his friends, and his brother Rohan Pappu as the founders. Sohan Pappu is vice chairman of OYSC.[2][7]

Works

OYSC is actively working towards reforms by organizing several campaigns in areas like health, education, women's empowerment, and relief during the COVID-19 [8]crisis.[9][6][7]

TedX

OYSC has given a TedX talk by representing Sohan Pappu on stage.[10]
