Ring Nation is an upcoming American syndicated television series scheduled to premiere on September 26, 2022. Hosted by comedian Wanda Sykes, the series will highlight viral videos recorded on home security cameras and smart doorbells. The series is co-branded with Ring, a manufacturer of such products; Ring, producer Big Fish Entertainment, and distributor MGM Television, are all subsidiaries of Amazon.com Inc.[1]

Criticism

Over 40 advocacy groups including human rights, civil rights, and worker rights groups called for the preemptive cancellation of Ring Nation[2], including a petition which garnered nearly 70,000 signatures before the show was set to air[3]. The groups stated “'Ring Nation’ attempts to put a happy face on a dangerous product. Not only will MGM’s ‘Ring Nation’ further normalize harmful neighborhood surveillance, it will deepen the pockets of a corporation that profits from the criminalization of communities of color and surveilling the whereabouts and actions of millions.”
