He is the lead rapper of the South Korean boy group BTS, managed under Big Hit Entertainment. In 2016, he released his solo mixtape, Agust D.
Biography
Suga was born on March 9, 1993 in Daegu, South Korea.[1] He started his music production career in middle school after being inspired by Stony Skunk and Epik High, and eventually delved into the underground rap scene.[2] He originally entered Big Hit Entertainment as a music producer after placing second in their nationwide 'Hit It' auditions with a self-composed rap.[3][4]
Career
BTS
On June 13, 2013, Suga made his debut as a member of BTS on Mnet's M! Countdown with the track "No More Dream" from their debut single album 2 Cool 4 Skool.[5][6] He has produced and written lyrics for a variety of tracks on all of BTS's albums.
Solo Work
Pre-debut, Suga collaborated with fellow BTS members Rap Monster and Jin on a cover of Kendrick Lamar's School of Tears as well as another song titled Adult Child.[7] Suga also released other songs under other original tracks, titled All I Do is Win and Dream Money.[8]
On October 27, 2013, Suga released his first original mixtape song under the group's SoundCloud titled It Doesn't Matter.[9]
On July 20, 2016, it was leaked that Suga had been filming a music video for his upcoming solo mixtape.[10] The whole mixtape was then released on August 16, 2016 under the group's SoundCloud and Apple Music, titled Agust D, one of Suga's aliases.[11][12] Suga also released a music video of Agust D that was uploaded onto BTS's official YouTube channel.[13] The music video reached 1 million views in less than 12 hours.[14] After the music video for Agust D was released, it was announced that Suga would be releasing two more music videos for his mixtape.[15]
