Once KRON moved to 1001 Van Ness Avenue and started broadcasting in color, the ability to reverse the scans was lost. Ms. Richards had to learn to actually write backwards and did. So did Karna Small. There was also another weekend "weather girl" by the name of Nancy Dale (not listed in the article) and she too could write backwards.76.14.65.187 (talk) 15:57, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Joe Carcione "The Green Grocer"
Notably absent from the article, Joe Carcione, who had a wholesale produce business and wrote articles for the Chronicle Food Section, become a notable personality with his segments on KRON Newscasts where he discussed what was fresh in the market or unique (like a Jersalem Artichoke or a Durian). KRON even produced a Christmas Special recorded a Carcione's home in Atherton where he prepared a Christmas meal for his family. I believe Mr. Carcione is deceased, but not 100% certain.76.14.65.187 (talk) 16:39, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Revision as of 16:39, 21 May 2009

I removed the part about potential buyers. This is just speculation and the references are just notes to speculative articles. Nothing is fact. I left in the part how KRON is for sale but it serves no purpose but gossip to say FOX or NBC MAY buy it. They may not so I removed the speculative and not factual part 4.143.229.25 (talk) 04:29, 3 May 2008 (UTC)eric[reply]

Error in Anchors for the KRON Easrly Newscast @ 6:30 AM

Having worked there at the time, my recollection is the first early morning newscast was originally broadcast prior to the date stated in the article and was anchored by Dick Doughty. Ran from 6:30 AM to 7:00. Also, there is no mention of KRON Noon News. While KRON was first in the area with an early AM broadcast, KPIX had the first Noon News and KRON soon added their own broadcast to compete.76.14.65.187 (talk) 15:41, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of Infamous Newshounds promotion.

Back in the 70's or early 80's KGO hired an ad agency and produced the expensive KGO News Gang promotion, which featured their news team dressed as cowboys and riding horses. The copy was something like "Out of the west rides the Channel 7 News Gang, Van "The Man" Amberg, Jerry "The Kid" Jensen, John O'Reily on Sports and Pete Giddings with the weather. . . etc."

KRON, not to be outdone, hired their own agency and came up with the Channel 4 Newshounds. The spot was shot on 35mm film and featured their anchors wearing giant dog heads. The theme was "Channel 4 Newshounds have a nose for news." The campaign was so ridiculed in the press (as I recall even Herb Caen had a comment) that the spot was pulled from the air and the campaign dropped within a week.76.14.65.187 (talk) 15:48, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Linda Richards writing backwards

As the article states, Linda Richards was the stations first "weather girl" She was not a meteorologist. The weather was presented by Ms. Richards from behind sliding plexiglass panels that would be pushed into the frame. She would write temperaturs or the forecast or sunrise and sunset information on them from behind the panels using a large "make up stick" with which to write. Once one section of the weather was complete, she would push the panel out of the frames as the next one was pushed in.

Everyone thought she was writing backwards, but at first the illusion was accomplished by a camera trick. When KRON was still in B&W, the panels were created with the lettering reading correctly facing Ms. Richards as she stood behind the panel. It looked backwards to the camera. There was a way that the scans in the camera could be reversed, so that the image would appear correctly to the viewer.

Once KRON moved to 1001 Van Ness Avenue and started broadcasting in color, the ability to reverse the scans was lost. Ms. Richards had to learn to actually write backwards and did. So did Karna Small. There was also another weekend "weather girl" by the name of Nancy Dale (not listed in the article) and she too could write backwards.76.14.65.187 (talk) 15:57, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
