Tishma is the most successful and well-known female rock music star in Bangladesh.[1][2] She is also known as the "Rock Princess of Bengal" among her fans.[3][4][5][6][7][excessive citations] She is a renowned teen singer, music composer, songwriter, record producer, music director, arranger, conductor, guitarist, keyboardist, rapper, rock musician, and plays different types of musical instruments such as guitar, keyboard, drums and others, and she is the first female music composer of Bangladesh.[3][5][8][9][10][11][excessive citations] She is famously a major pioneer and innovator in Bangladeshi popular music, and is noted for introducing many significant changes in the pop music arena in her country.[4][5][6][8]

Music career

Tishma has released thirteen solo albums, each being chart-toppers with record-breaking sales as verified by Sangeeta, the audio company to which Tishma is signed.[1][2][6][9][12][excessive citations] Tishma made her debut as a child artist with her album Tara in late December 2002 (due to the release time late in the year, sometimes Tishma's album is often listed as a 2003 release[9][13]).

Starting from her debut album, Tishma has introduced a number of new music genres to Bangladesh, such as R&B, ballads, and funk[13] Tishma was the only female Bangladeshi artist and the youngest one to signed with the soft drink brand Pepsi since her debut album.[13] Tishma has since been influential to Bangla music trends; over the years, many artists have tried to closely follow and imitate Tishma's every aspect after watching Tishma's success as an experimental musician, although none have come close to achieving her level of fame and success,[1][6][14] and Tishma's constant stream of contributions to music, choreography, music videos, fashion, stage and arts have inspired and continue to be followed by other Bangladeshi pop singers.[2][5][6][8][9][15][16][17][excessive citations] Tishma is the youngest artist in Bangla music to have released thirteen solo albums.[8][18]

Tishma is a feminist icon in Bangladesh for her contributions to developments in women's music in the country.[4][8][16] Tishma is the first female music composer in Bangladesh, and she is also a classically trained singer, songwriter, music composer, record producer, music director, arranger, conductor, and DJ, and she plays different types of musical instruments such as piano, keyboards, drums and guitar.[19]

In 2012, Tishma released her solo album Xperiment ReloadeD, and in 2013 released her solo album Hypnotized, both of which are fully tuned and composed by herself.[20][21][22][23] In 2014, Tishma was to release her next solo album, Rockstar, which was written, tuned and composed by her;[6][7][16][17] as per studio reports and television interviews, some of the songs in this new album will be rock, ballads, funk, slow and mellow rock; and the rest of the songs in this new album will be soft, slow, classical and melodious songs, at the request of fans who enjoyed her softer classical mellow hits "De Re Na Na Megh Jhorana", "Projapoti" and so on.[6] A documentary video album of Tishma named The Rock Princess – Xposed, which will include five new music videos of Tishma's songs, was to be released in 2013 or 2014.[24] In 2015, Tishma released her latest solo album MesmerizeD,[3] which is also fully tuned and composed by herself, and contains both English and Bangla tracks.[25][26]

Education and biography

Tishma spent a large part of her early childhood in various countries of Europe,[5] and began her education in the UK.[5][27]

Originally a classically trained musician,[28], Tishma began her musical education at a very early age;[6][27] she was playing piano by age four,[28][29] and studied European Classical Music & Music Theory under ABRSM, London.[30] She also received talim (musical education) in Indian classical music from Ustad Shonjib De, Ustad Akhtar Sadmani and Shampa Reza among other Ustads, and studied Tagore songs (Rabindra Sangeet) from Dr. Anupam of Shantiniketan, and Nazrul Geeti and folk music under Ustads.[28][30] She has released songs in a variety of genres such as rock, Bangla folk, opera, rap, classical, experimental, alternative, Nazrul, Rabindra Sangeet and Adhunik.[5][27]

Alongside having released most of her albums while in school, Tishma has 10 A's in O levels (in one sitting) and 5 A's in A levels.[3][5][31][32][33][excessive citations] In 2014, she has taken a break from media work to attend college, and she is currently studying engineering in college.[34]
