I'm sorry, as soon as I saw what you did I reverted you. That will always stay. You know, I just understood why you have stopped the reversions; I myself have learnt curses (not that I use them on a daily basis) from reverting vandalism that I didnt even know before, so I see where you are coming from. However my reasoning is that it is better for me to find and remove swearing and obscene images than for a 10 year old, and relative innocent, to come across them when studying for a geography project. In a way, by reverting you are limiting the spread of the filth. Anyway, it is complicated, and I understand. Btw, I've just been reading your blog, and I am amazed at your faith. Hopefully, you may even see me there some time...My trip was just fine thanks, better than I expected. But that doesnt change the fact that I simply cant stand Johannesburg :) . Well, I had...reloads wikipedia to check VG's last message, sees "new messages"... read some of the other replies on your talk page, and I was refering to the "extreme calling" one. The only problem is that I have a deep down opposition to blogs in general, I always used to think they were really stupid. Until I read your one. So if I can swallow my pride, maybe I'll set one up. I didnt know you had any other one? The sig is in "memory" in, I dunno, just a commemorative (excuse spelling, but its been a long weekend) new sig for the occasion of your "departure", whatever. Im a newbie.
I was just browsing through different users and I noticed that you stated that you love to talk so I thought i would say hi. You said you are big into music so you might appreciate the article I wrote on Smashed Gladys. I am attempting to become an administrator currently myself. Just out of curiousity I noticed that yoiu said you love awards, and food, So I was wondering if you have any awards for food that you've earned. Also do you have wieght problems, because of your love of food? Not that I have any problem with people who are overweight, its just i had an aunt who LOVED food and she just kept getting bigger and bigger until the doctor finally put her on a program. Im diabetic so I cant really enjoy the sweets and a vegetarian so I dont eat meat either, but I do love an organic pizza now and again. I appreciate your positive outlook, and must say I am delighted to hear that your aren't heavy, as that can lead to all kinds of mediacl problems(again I have nothing against overwight people, in fact one of my very good friends is fat, its just I have seen first hand the problems that it can cause). So have you had a chance to look at my Smashed Gladys article yet? If so what did you think? I have to admit that I am not really that into classical music that much as most of the classical artists(that I am aware of) were before my time. perhaps you could introduce me to some that have a more modern feel. I really enjoy slide guitar, so if yo know of any pieces that have that kind of feel it would be appreciated. I of have been planning on waiting a bit longer to become an administrator, but am currently studiing under AdministatorUncleG and I think I may choose to try my hand at it earlier rather than later if thats what it takes to get rid of these vandals that have been terrorizing our works(I know that administrators are supposed to assume good faith and remain calm during disputes, but these guys just wont let up) anyway its always nice to make a wiki-friend and heres hoping that you fare well wherever you may farePickelbarrel 23:54, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have any of these musicians written anything I may have heard of. I will say that I am fond of the William Tell overture(the piece that is heard at the begginig of The Lone Ranger), although it gets a bit repeative after awhile. Re: Poetry (and much miscellaneous etcetera)
Ever since "Weien! You're blue!" I've been meaning to reply here, but I guess commenting at thine blog and a thought or two on the Statement came first, so... yea, sizable comment on the way. ^^
On Poetry: Well, if that was your first poem (or one of the first), it's definitely a good start. I mean, consider some of my first poems (Dec/3/03 was my second, after one that's not on my site because it's kinda... romantic *turns red* ^^)--just don't consider them too deeply XD. But as for "poetry training," everything I know came from just plain writing poetry (well, and a bit of help from SoundFound too, of course :D), that is until I had the pleasure of taking this class last semester at the local community college. I found that many of the things I'd subconsciously figured out in the past few years had actual names, but (even better) was able to get a lot of good feedback from both the instructor and my fellow students. I don't suppose we'll ever have people saying, like, "Yeah, I CLEP'ed out of Poetry Writing," but it was a really great class with all purely-academic reasons aside XD (though I'm sure the CLEP does look for some basic knowledge on poetic things, like in the English Lit section?). So those are the memoirs of a rhymer.
As for what I confidently hail as "artistic presentation of inter- and intra-stanza enjambment," well... with a good teacher helper, I don't suppose it would take nearly "several pages" to explain (well, maybe nearly ^^). And what better teacher than Wikipedia? So let's start with Enjambement. As Wikipedia says, enjambed lines are ones that don't end with a complete phrase, clause or sentence (example: the first line of "the violin," by ViolinGirl). Compare that with end-stopped lines (e.g. last line of the same poem, where the end of the line is also the end of a sentence). Though the enjambement entry does note (later in the article) that heavy enjambement is generally used to convey a sense of urgency, acceleration, or even discomfort (and I'm guessing that those weren't your intentions with "the violin"), your poem utilizes this poetic tool in a way that actually works (I even feel that the "oh!" in the second stanza captures very much the spirit of the entire piece--that is, the enjambed one ^^). And to add to that, you've even used a template where none of the verses (other than the last) end end-stopped, which is a mindful (whether or not you borrowed things from another poet ^^).
(Re: Side note: I haven't read "The Prodigal's Sister" [1] yet; looks like something I'll want to pick up or at least sit down at Borders with ^^. I was able to read the sample [2]

Anyway, I'm happy (and love) to comment on poetry, and if I can be helpful while doing it, that's definitely a plus ^^. Hopefully I've explained the enjambment thing to a suitable extent (by the way, I did have to write an enjambed poem for the class, have you seen it[3]? It should give some final enlightenment on the "urgency, acceleration, or even discomfort" business, if anything ^^). Oh, and about thesauri... yes, using one can definitely get you out of a lot of poetry-problem-spots. What I usually have in front of me when I'm writing is thesaurus.com, a rhyming dictionary (like the one here, though that link is only a sample), and Notepad (yea, it's all on the compy for me ^^). At any rate, if you have any other questions, thoughts, or (hooray!) poems, I'd definitely love to have a look (otherwise, for anything that has garnered a "thanks," in return, a hearty "welcome" :D). Keep endeavoring for le mot juste!

About this: Oh no! I'm not completely sure what exactly happened with all of your text promptly zipping away, but I can completely sympathize. Way too many occurrences of losing large amounts of writing have instilled a healthy Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C paranoia in me (yes, all the text in this web form is occasionally being copied to "post.txt" on my desktop XD). At least glad to hear that what you were going to say was mostly in confirmation--I was really hoping that I was typing on the right track concerning your Statement. *phew*
And to lessen the confusion about the Saruman illustration (true, I do suppose it would've been easier to understand having watched LOTR, sorry -_-), yes, you're correct in your guess--basically he was a fellow who studied the enemy so as to better counter them but unfortunately ended up as one of them, since all of his research convinced him that they were the ones who would ultimately win. Definitely an exaggerated example, but... still a fun one ^^. Starts noticing an over-application of the shift-6 smiley, groans.
On other things: Oh, about Solresol; I'm actually not planning to do much on that article; it's actually another (very similar) language called Sarus that I'm interested in. You can read about it here (the first forum thread explains the gist of it). Making a good article out of it will require a lot of research and copyright-gathering, though (it's a language constructed by a single person, Adam Phillips), especially since I've lately been seeing a lot of discussions about topic notability. Speaking of which... have a look at what's been keeping me busy lately (Wiki-wise), an AfD discussion on Bill Gothard [[4]] shiver. Pretty much all of the discussions for IBLP, Bill Gothard, and even the 49 Character Qualities are getting hot.

Sorry, I declared myself insane a year ago. :) As it happens, I've never fallen asleep at the computer. But I'm quite used to staying up all night, in fact, I enjoy it. I did it a lot last year because of my need to cram before exams. I must just tell you the worst of late night computing, I once, at 01:00 on wikipedia (in harsh edit war with vandal) I was drinking coke to keep me going. Glad they cheered you up. :) Talk about rewriting, the above I wrote twice as I had to rush out suddenly (I had forgotten to return a film) and pressed "close" instead of "save". :-) Dont worry about it taking time, I enjoy it. I wont do it too much though (more than three times a day), as it a.) will get me blocked and b.) gives me high userspace edits, which I am picky about for my RFA. You wont need to thank me every time, but an occasional kudos for a especially good vandalism would be appreciated. ;)

Crocuses and saffron
So cool, your new pic. Three or four house moves ago, I had a patch of crocuses under a spruce tree that seemed to thrive on neglect, popped up fresh every spring. I don't know how "on fire" I am, but I certainly am a Christian. My siblings and I are 12 in number, evenly divided between boys and girls. It's quite nice and large. It's true, they are cheaper by the dozen. I don't play anything myself other than a little piano, trying to get better at that and guitar.

a story you will understand
A little story for your amusement:
Once upon a time, my family lived in Anatolia, Asia Minor, what is now called Turkey. My Dad borrowed a jeep from the embassy in Ankara, took my sister and me out of school for a week, and went touring in the East and into Syria for a while. I have no idea what his real business was at the time, since I was about 9 or 10 then. But in Eastern Turkey we stayed with some missionaries (allowed to stay as long as they didn't "evangelize" in that secular Islamic republic or jumhuriyet. Spelled cumhuriyet in the local language. Bla, bla. And more bla...) who showed us some ancient tombs, "hewn from the living rock." They were these cool underground chambers, with honkin big discs of rock at the entrance, like hockey pucks a foot thick and four feet across, neatly tucked into slots chiseled out of the rock beside the entrance. Some tombs had two of them, one before the other. In those days, the middle 1950's, they were being used as cool dark damp places to store evergreen seedlings for a reforestation project.

For stopping by on my talk page, I really appreciate it. You're welcome regarding that Babylon thing. I'm afraid I wont be vandalizing your page today, as it may get me into trouble. After this is all over (very shortly) I'll resume. I'm afraid to say the opposers are most certainly valid. I dont know anything about vandal warnings, as I never have used them. The reasons are as follows (whoever else reads this), and many probably wont like them: 1. The serious vandals ignore them. 2. While I'm busy editing their talk page they are elsewhere vandalizing, and I'm not reverting. 3. I get annoyed because I might put up six "stop else I'll block you" templates, and as I'm not an admin, it would be an empty threat. I have on occasion asked an admin friend/an admin I nominated (I have one or two) to block the vandal. There are my reasons for not using them, and because I dont it may be the reason I never get my page vandalized...But I'm rectifying that problem as we speak, it is a matter of reading the page. Now this is strange. This evening I see clouds of smoke, covering my entire city, I think nothing of it (fires are common). Hello! How very lovely to hear from you!! Ah, you're the only wikipedian I've heard from so far (except for CelestianPower, but it was an automatic welcome message so doesn't really count)—which is great—I love messages! Suddenly, now that I've heard from you, Wikipedia feels like a community! To be honest, I'm still not used to its sense of community at all (see my user page), but then again, you can't expect me to be when I just heard from another wikipedian for the first time two days ago or something... This is so cool!!!
Ahem, anyway, to answer your question, hmm, I don't think I can recommend one concerto for a pianist to play as there are so many good ones out there. But here's a few that I thought might be suitable (as first concertos)...
So there. I hope I'm being helpful. Those recordings, by the way, are done with authentic instruments, which happens to be the style that I'm really into. As you may know, I'm really a baroque person. Well, I mean, Mozart is hardly a baroque composer, but the style in which those performers play is somewhat closer to the (authentic) baroque style than it is to the romantic style, or whatever style people used to play classical music in before the Early Music Revival (which took place [roughly] right after the second world war). Anyway, that wasn't all very important — I just got a bit carried away :-P
Oh yeah, I have a question. I'm wondering if my user page is a little too ... vain. I mean, I've read the link CelestianPower sent me but I still can't... judge, since I don't really know how wikipedians are yet, as in, I don't know what would de facto be considered a vanity page and what would not. Basically, I have no clue how to "behave" around here yet. At the moment, I'm thinking of at least deleting the whole trivia section since it's so unimportant (though it might be kind of amusing). Do you reckon I should? or do you think it's okay as it is? Please advise!
Oh dear, you made me blush! ... all those thank-you's ... not necessary at all! I love sharing what I know with other people, it's just that most of the time they are not very interested (e.g. People: "Oh no, not Charpentier again!). Nice to know though that you appreciate my, er, advice so much; I appreciate your correspondence just as much :-)
And, wow, are you really playing the Goldberg Variations?? But that's like one of the most difficult pieces of music of the entire keyboard literature! Perhaps I should be recommending you more difficult concertos then! I performed the complete Goldberg Variations back in 2004 when I was 18 (it was in fact my recital debut) and I barely got through it! (though, as it happened, I repeated the concert a month after due to popular demand — apparently I managed to fool the audience into thinking that I could actually play it). In my opinion you have to either be a fearless adolescent (as I was) or an old sage to even think of attempting that infinitely profound piece. It's one of those pieces where you spend your whole life learning, if you see what I mean. But no, the Aria is certainly a good piece to learn by itself. Didn't mean to scare you away!
One used to be able to listen to my first performance of the Aria on my website (tsk, oh, vanity... I feel so guilty talking about my own performances and stuff, really, hope you don't mind — I'm a little paranoid, as you may have noticed), but I recently got rid of the link as I didn't think it was good enough. Maybe I'll put it back in for you (and everyone). Note, though, that I would play it a lot differently now if I were to play it again (which I'm not going to anytime soon!). All the ornamentations would be completely different, probably much wilder.
Now, to answer your question: yes, the harpsichord is very different from the piano — sadly, many pianists do not realise that. They think they can just jump in and play the instrument. The harpsichord's touching is generally lighter than that of the piano, which is the very reason why they [pianists] think it's easier. The truth is that the light touching makes it much more difficult to control, et cetera. But anyway, that was all technical stuff (as opposed to artistic) which I try to avoid talking about. Really, it's just a whole different way of thinking, of perceiving the universe, so to speak. Thatis the real difference. You think differently when you play the harpsichord; you worry about different things. I may be a little bit vague right now, but if you really would like to know more about the instrument you can ask me more specific questions, and I'll try to be as helpful as I possibly can.
And sorry for this rather late reply. I try to reply to my messages (well, only got 3 so far, really) as soon as I receive them. It's just that what usually ends up happening is, I'll be sitting here in front of the computer playing the recorder or something for an hour before I even start writing anything. Feel free to write to me anytime. I'm always online (which means that I am on Wikipedia as well) except when I am working or sleeping; I am online at least 5 hours a day (on my busy days, and 12 hours on free days, usually). I'm hoping to reply to your message later, but for now I just want to say a few things that've been jumping out at me for a bit now, haha (it is odd feeling this rotten about not replying to messages right away when (thinking realistically) it's only been a few days O_o). One thing is the Bill Gothard AfD page; near the bottom, one user asked you a question in reply to your "Keep" vote (unfortunately, I'm a bit late in telling you this; the debate ended recently, fortunately with a result of "Keep" grin) ^_^ I think you'll find it humorous, though (his comment).
The other thing was noticing your link to WikiToolbar. While it is quite nice (I tried it on IE, titter), there's actually something that you can do in Firefox which you may or may not like even better (I'm assuming that you haven't heard of it yet): it's a built-in feature for Firefox. How would you like to be able to type "w chinrest" in the normal address bar of Firefox and get directly transported to the corresponding article? Simply do the following:
1. Open up Wikipedia (any page, article, etc) in Firefox
2. Right-click the search text box (i.e., where the cursor blinks)
3. Click "Add a Keyword for this Search"
4. Fill in something like "Wikipedia" in the "Name" box in the window that pops up, and "w" for the Keyword box, then click "Ok"
Now, all you have to do now is type "w ArticleNameHere" to get to any article in the 'Pedia! Obviously, you can use any letter or word you like instead of "w" ^^. And then of course, you can do the same for any other searches you use often, whether it be Google, Dictionary.com, Thesaurus.com, or whatever. Just a neat trick my sister showed me that I'm only just getting used to... see if you like it--no offense will be taken if you don't XD. Just something I thought might pique your interest.
