Suggestion

The recent undiscussed page move & other changes resulted in a bit of a chaos at Jat people. And your not so well-thought-out page move requests will create even more chaos. So I request you to get more experience by editing some other articles/pages for the next two/three weeks before making any type of new request at Jat people. That way you will have a better understanding of the WP policies. And the article will also get a bit stabilised. Thanks.

PS: The South Asian social groups related articles are among the most disrupted pages on this project. So please also familiarise yourself with Wikipedia:General sanctions/South Asian social groups. - NitinMlk (talk) 18:54, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your advice. I will follow it. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 12:11, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Notice

The article Mikhail Konstantinovich Kudryavtsev has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

insufficient evidence for a biography

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Article creation

If you are creating an article, remember few points:

  • If the subject meets WP:GNG or WP:BASIC, i.e. there are either around three in-depth sources or a healthy number of sources containing non-trivial coverage, then you can create an article. Note that sources in either case should be independent & reliable.
  • If there are not clear signs of them meeting GNG/BASIC, then they should meet WP:NPROF in the case of scholars. Normally, if a scholar's work has recieved at least three/four scholarly reviews, then they may be suitable for a biography. Similarly, let's say, if an ethnographer's couple of works have been cited around 100 times by others, then also they may be suitable for a biography. As an example, this book of Dipankar Gupta is cited around 400 times by others. - NitinMlk (talk) 17:32, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your valuable advice, NitinMlk. In the next few days, I will carefully read all of the links suggested above by you, in this section and in the section above (Suggestion). Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 05:43, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Mikhail Konstantinovich Kudryavtsev, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. As it stands there is zero credible indication of how this subject passes WP:PROF or WP:GNG. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline or WP:PROF and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Please note, this is done in an attempt to avoid Articles for Deletion. Cheers Sulfurboy (talk) 01:39, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have sent you a note about a page you started

Hello, Мастер Шторм

Thank you for creating Aparna Rao.

User:Sam-2727, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Hi there! I left a tag for "weasel words" on this page. I want you to know that I think this is a great article you created, you just need to remove some vague words such as in the lead ("Renowned"). For instance in the lead this could be changed to "known" and it would read in a much more neutral tone.

To reply, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Sam-2727}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ .

(Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Sam-2727 (talk) 17:36, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Sam-2727. First of all, thank you for reviewing the article, and suggesting this improvement. I have already replaced the word "renowned" with "known". Is it ok to request you to ask for more suggestions for the changes that should be done, if still required to be done, in order to comply with WP:WEASEL. This would be much appreciated. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 17:44, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the sentence, "Aparna Rao was an anthropologist, known (renowned → known) for her fieldwork on numerous social groups in South Asia" is a summarization of the content of the article. Did I made a mistake? Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 17:47, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, I have changed the sentence to "Aparna Rao was an anthropologist, known for her fieldwork on numerous social groups in India and Afghanistan." I would like to invite you to take a fresh look at the article. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:00, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sam-2727, I have changed the sentence to "Aparna Rao was an anthropologist, who had done studies on numerous social groups in Afghanistan, and some regions of India." Kindly note this edit also. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:13, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Great. I would also change the wording of "done significant research" (just say done research), and change "in due course, served as prime inspiration for her in chalking out her path" to "she has said was her primary inspiration for becoming an academic." After that, feel free to remove the tag. Sam-2727 (talk) 19:37, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Done Thank you for your time and the above suggestions, Sam-2727. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 20:23, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Sam-2727. I have been trying to further improve this article. Kindly accept my invitation to review it once more, and provide suggestions for further improvements. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 21:30, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Мастер Шторм, I'll do that. I'll leave the comments on the article talk page. Do note that this isn't a "formal review" like last time. When I originally reviewed your article, it was part of the WP:NPP process. Sam-2727 (talk) 04:38, 9 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Sam-2727. Мастер Шторм (talk) 11:49, 9 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for April 19

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Aparna Rao, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Peripatetic (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Delinked. Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:27, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, as far as getting details regarding the editors of journal articles like this one is concerned, you can see there are a couple of links right above the pic of the journal: "The Journal of ... / Vol. 71, No. 28... / A Sikh Village". If you will click on the first link (The Journal of ...), it will take you to the main page of the journal, which contains links of all of its previous issues. As you are interested in specific details of the issue in question, you should click on the second link, namely "Vol. 71, No. 28...". That will take you to the "Table of Contents" of the issue, where you should click on the "Front Matter", which will take you to the initial pages which have the details about editors.

Secondly, if there are multiple editors/authors, you can use the |display-editors=/|display-authors= parameter to control the display of the names of editors/authors in a citation (see Template:Cite book for more details).

Thirdly, regarding the "Notable works" parameter of the infobox, the notability at this project is determined by the independent coverage, e.g. if there are multiple, in-depth reviews of a book, then it will be considered as a notable work – see WP:BOOKCRIT. So, in the case of Stephen Fuchs, there are at least half a dozen notable works, as all of them have at least three in-depth scholarly reviews. I guess listing that many works in the infobox seem unnecessary unless someone bothers to create separate articles for them. And I won't suggest you to create those articles, as that will take a lot of effort. Having said that, if you want to create an article about a book you like, you can learn from some high-quality articles listed at Category:FA-Class Book articles. You may also find some helpful details at Wikipedia:WikiProject Books. To sum up, I guess you can list those works at "Notable works" parameter of the infobox which meet WP:BOOKCRIT, even if none of them have a WP article. But it's up to you to decide.

Finally, if you want to search articles/reviews of/by/about some scholar at JSTOR, you can do that in the following two ways: au:"Stephen Fuchs" & ti:"Stephen Fuchs". I have used this method to locate 50-odd scholarly reviews of Fuchs' works, and I have listed them at Talk:Stephen Fuchs#Some reviews of his works. There are so many reviews of his works that I got bored by just listing them. So don't bother much about them. - NitinMlk (talk) 20:12, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

NitinMlk, thank you so much for your guidance, and thanks for taking out the time Мастер Шторм (talk) 04:44, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some rules of WP:Rfc

This is a list of rules i found interesting.

  • An RfC should last until enough comment has been received that consensus is reached, or until it is apparent it won't be.

There is no required minimum or maximum duration; however, Legobot assumes an RfC has been forgotten and automatically ends it (removes the rfc template) 30 days after it begins, to avoid a buildup of stale discussions cluttering the lists and wasting commenters' time.

  • RfCs are a way to attract more attention to a discussion about making changes to pages or procedures, including articles, essays, guidelines, policies, and many other kinds of pages. It uses a system of centralized noticeboards and random, bot-delivered invitations to advertise discussions to uninvolved editors. The normal talk page guidelines apply to these discussions.
  • Try not to be confrontational. Be friendly and civil, and assume good faith of other editors' actions.
  • Edits to content under RfC discussion may be particularly controversial. Avoid making edits that others may view as unhelpful. Editing after others have raised objections may be viewed as disruptive editing or edit warring. Be patient; make your improvements in accord with consensus after the RfC is resolved.
  • Like other discussions, RfCs sometimes end without an agreement or clear resolution. Please remove the {{rfc}} tag when the dispute has been resolved, or when discussion has ended.

Anyone who wants an uninvolved editor to write a closing summary of the discussion (ideally with a determination of consensus) can formally request closure by posting at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/ Heba Aisha (talk) 06:29, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Spacing and paragraph writing

In Rajput article the section u added seems voluminous plz break them in paragraph for suitable reading. Otherwise you are a very competent editor. Thank u.Heba Aisha (talk) 01:42, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Heba Aisha. Thank you for the advice, and THANK YOU for the compliment

Thanks for improving my edit(s). I was actually away for some days and hadn't signed-in for nearly 3 weeks. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 14:31, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Heba Aisha, please always feel free to edit/rephrase the content added by me as/if required. Also, I think that sometimes, I am not able to choose the right words in English while rephrasing the academics or at least struggle to do so, therefore I won't mind if you would make any necessary changes to my edits. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:22, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Heba Aisha and LukeEmily. I have come across an interesting quote from a source, and I would like to share the quote with you.
  • Mishra, Patit Paban (1997). "Critique of Indianization Theory". Proceedings of the Indian History Congress. 58. Indian History Congress: 799–807. JSTOR 44144025.

The services of the brahmans were enlisted, who merged the Hindu religious system with local cults and made the rulers as avataras (incarnations) of God and eventually transmitted legal codes. [..] The priests became counsellors in the affairs of the courts and provided political support to the rulers by giving them a sort of investitute and genealogical list, which elevated their position, Thus the brahmana theory made the Indianization process an initiative of the elite of Southeast Asia.

HI, would you check this edit. Also some IP, possibly the same person, made a cherrypicked removal of sourced content [1] just before. Seems a POV pusher. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:46, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

These edits make a clear case of caste POV. Pinging @HinduKshatrana, LukeEmily, and Heba Aisha:. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:51, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fylindfotberserk, sorry for getting back to you so late. Actually, I did not log in, and consequently, did not see the messages. We have already mentioned in the articles' relevant section that this title is used by Rajputs also. So, that shall cover what they want to add. Taking into account all the edits by that user, I agree with your assessment of their behavior, definitely a case of POV pushing. In fact, I suggest that you report this to the admins. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 13:25, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fylindfotberserk, since the lead shall summarize the content of the article, maybe we shall mention in the lead that this title is used by the castes A,B,C,D...E. At the moment, 3 castes are already mentioned in the article with citations. Actually, I am thinking that the article would also get improved if we expand the lead. Let's try to provide a summary of the article in the lead. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 13:44, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fylindfotberserk, I have expanded the lead. Please feel free to edit it. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 14:27, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the expansion. It is better now. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:50, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A belated welcome

Hi Мастер Шторм. Welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you don't mind if I share some of my thoughts on starting out as a new editor on Wikipedia: If I could get editors in your situation to follow just one piece of advice, it would be this: Learn Wikipedia by working only on non-contentious topics until you have a feel for the normal editing process and the policies that usually come up when editing casually. You'll find editing to be fun, easy, and rewarding. The rare disputes are resolved quickly and easily in collaboration.

Working on biographical information about living persons is far more difficult. Wikipedia's Biographies of living persons policy requires strict adherence to multiple content policies, and applies to all information about living persons including talk pages.

If you have a relationship with the topics you want to edit, then you will need to review Wikipedia's Conflict of interest policy, which may require you to disclose your relationship and restrict your editing depending upon how you are affiliated with the subject matter. Regardless, editing in a manner that promotes an entity or viewpoint over others can appear to be detrimental to the purpose of Wikipedia and the neutrality required in articles.

Some topic areas within Wikipedia have special editing restrictions that apply to all editors. It's best to avoid these topics until you are extremely familiar with all relevant policies and guidelines.

If you work from reliable, independent sources, you shouldn't go far wrong. WP:RSP and WP:RSN are helpful in determining if a source is reliable.

I hope you find some useful information in all this, and welcome again. --Hipal (talk) 18:21, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Customary Strangers: New Perspectives on Peripatetic Peoples in the Middle East, Africa and Asia

Would it be useful to include the reviews of this work in the "written work" section of Aparna Rao?

We have two reviews of this cited ([4] and [5]), but no summary in the written works section

Sam-2727 (talk) 18:14, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sam-2727, got your message. Just give me 15-20 minutes maximum, I will reply soon. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:22, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, yes it's a good idea to add from Robert M. Hayden's review. But, what can we add from the book? We have already cited page 341 in the article. Can you be more specific about what can be added from the book? Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:49, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, should I make a draft to be added from Hayden's review and post it here first rather than adding directly to article? That way, we would be able to discuss it also. I can complete that in some time. Also, can the title of the section be changed from "written work" to "reviews of written work"? Is "written work" the most appropriate title? Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 18:58, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Мастер Шторм, the draft would be great. I think "written work" is an appropriate title for now. We have already cited it, but only to say the term "periapetic peoples" was coined by her. It would be best to include directly his thoughts on her book Customary Strangers: New Perspectives on Peripatetic Peoples in the Middle East, Africa and Asia as well. Sam-2727 (talk) 19:02, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, we can do this in my sandbox: User:Sam-2727/sandbox. I didn't copy over the citations, but I think that's ok for just modifying the draft. Sam-2727 (talk) 19:04, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sure Sam-2727, I will prepare a draft and post it in your sandbox. It should take 20-25 minutes or less. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 19:08, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, I have posted the draft in your sandbox. It may require some addition/deletion or some rephrasing. Let's do that. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 19:55, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Мастер Шторм, I rephrased some of it. Please take a look. Sam-2727 (talk) 20:35, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, you are gifted )) It's so much better rephrased/rebuilt. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 20:44, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, are you sure you don't want to mention year after the book's title. It helps in showing the chronology of content, and also that at a given time what subject the academic was working on and at that time how the reviewer(s) reviewed their work. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 20:50, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Мастер Шторм, I have added the year next to the title. Sam-2727 (talk) 20:54, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, thank you for sharing this with me. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 20:59, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sam-2727, I wish to have a few hours' sleep )) When I wake up, I will follow up for sure. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 21:25, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sam-2727, if you would like to advice me regarding the edits I am have made/making to Aparna Rao, kindly feel free to do that. I always welcome a good advice. I am making these edits after following up on/learning from some of the comments at the discussion on the talk page. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 05:41, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

APARNA RAO did her schooling in India before studying Social Anthropology, Sociology, Human Geography, Islamic Studies and French Literature at the Universities of Paris (Sorbonne) and Srasbourg. She has researched mobile populations of peripatetics and pastoralists, in France, Afghanistan and the Western Himalayas (Kashmir), and published extensively on aspects of social organisation, economy, gender relations and ethnicity. She has taught Anthropology at Cologne University and is acting Head of Department, Anthropology, University of Heidelberg.

Aparna Rao has taught anthropology at the University of Cologne and acted as Head of Department, Ethnology, at the South Asia Institute, University of Heidelberg. She was cochairperson of the Commission on Nomadic Peoples of the International Union of Ethnological and Anthropological Sciences and is chief editor of the journal Nomadic Peoples. She has spent several years doing field research among peripatetic pastoral and farming communities.

Please see this edit also.

Sam-2727, is there something that can be added from these citations to article? The second citation is already in the article for some content. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 16:17, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The concept of peripatetics has been introduced in Romani studies by scholars such as Aparna Rao (1985, 1987), Joseph Berland (1982) and Salo and Salo (1982). Peripataticism is a mode of subsistence of great adaptive value. Peripatetics are endogamous groups who "employ regular spatial mobility as an economic strategy" (Rao 1987, 1).

Sam-2727, here, the definition of the term "peripatetic peoples", according to Rao, has been provided. The author also states that she introduced this concept in the Romani studies. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 16:48, 2 December 2020 (UTC) Мастер Шторм (talk) 16:54, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In 1985, Aparna Rao published an article providing an overview of peripatetic communities. She described nomadism as an adaptation strategy in response to disasters: "It is possible that some communities have chosen to become peripatetic, but in the majority of cases, they were brought into being by the pressures of sedentary (or, in some cases, pastoral) societies, which today contribute to their more or less rapid disappearance."

Sam-2727, Henriette Asséo was a professor at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales. Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 17:14, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Aparna Rao has drawn attention to the 'Zigeunerin als Br¨ucke zwischen den Gesellschaften' and notes that one of the traditional roles of the female Romani was to deal and have contact with non-Romanies.

Google translates 'Zigeunerin als Br¨ucke zwischen den Gesellschaften' as "Gypsy as a bridge between societies". Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 17:29, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
