Tense Question

In PiQ, the lead notes that PiQ "is an American popular culture magazine once published by PiQ, LLC, a subsidiary of A.D. Vision from March to July 2008." A newer editor is arguing that it should be "was" rather than "is" because the magazine is out of print. I'm arguing that "is" is correct because the magazine still exists in a physical form. The same is done with television series, even if its canceled it still "IS" a television series. Would you be willing to offer a neutral third opinion on the talk page as to which is correct? -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 03:55, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

FA-Team

I know you quit, but what about a French translation project? Two editors have translated an entire article and need help checking it and copyediting it! Wouldn't that be fun? See here - the article is Félix Houphouët-Boigny. Awadewit (talk) 14:24, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:India House

Hi Scartol, thanks for the cheers, and for the help with the c/e of India House. Am a wee bit disappointed, but I am sure I can renominate it soon. The actual favour (a massive one) I want to actually ask you is if you can help me at some time with Niedermayer-Hentig Expedition and after that with the Hindu-German Conspiracy. I had written this latter article last year but it failed an FAC for prose and langlit, but there was a lot of commentson summary style. I am building the sub articles now (of which N-H expedition is a part), but would really appreciate some help (if you can) with c/e. Thanks nonetheless for the help with India House. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 22:28, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Copyediting request

Hi. Are you busy? I cannot recall if I have contacted you before, but I've currently got the article Insane Clown Posse up as a featured article candidate, and a lot has been added to the article since it was last copyedited. Could you help out? (Ibaranoff24 (talk) 02:10, 27 July 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Excuses

I'm looking for a good excuse to write to you and hear your voice again, but I can't think of one. :) Hmmm, how about I review La Peau de chagrin and ask for your help in reviewing something else, something...(cue ominous music)...mathematical?

My sister's wedding came off as smoothly as silk on glass, an amazing alchemy given how much stress and tears (both senses) went into its preparation. ;) Everything and everyone was in just the right place, physically and emotionally, and even the weather cooperated wonderfully. :) The newlyweds are off on their honeymoon journey together, the beginning of that long journey; I left them a little surprise present in their apartment for when they return. :)

I returned home myself to a garden full of weeds and berries: bushels of blueberries, raspberries, currants, gooseberries, everything except grapes (not ready yet) and strawberries (already gone). :) I'm rather slowly working down the weeds, and gorging myself on berries morning and night. I love this time of year. :) I'm putting some up for winter, and sharing the rest with my fellow villagers and sundry winged creatures. A young woman who lives nearby asked to learn gardening, especially berries and tomatoes; so I'm helping her start a garden and giving her plants to fill it with. :) Poor we each may be, but rich together; dividing plants multiplies happiness. :) And even Solomon had no rubies like red currants. Review of two mathematics articles?

more ominous music ;)

Dear Scartol,

I'd really like your opinion on the intelligibility of two mathematical articles? You don't have to read them all the way through — although that'd be great! :) — but could you please guesstimate the percentage of sentences might be understood by, say, a sophmore English-literature major in college, one who was sincerely trying to understand the article? You shouldn't be afraid of saying a low number, even 0%, if that's how it is; the article needs to earn its seat in the Valhalla of Featured Articles, and sometimes mathematicians need a reality check before they undertake major revisions to make themselves understood.

The first article, and the one most needing a review, is group (mathematics), which is completely fundamental to Emmy's work. Its chief author, Jacob, would really like to take it to FAC very soon, I think. Since it will be the pattern for all future articles on her work, it's really important that we get this one right, that the article strike a healthy balance between accuracy and clarity for non-math-heads.

The second article, one dear to my heart but which won't go to FAC for some time, is the problem of Apollonius. I haven't tweaked it yet for easy understanding, but if you could give me a little guidance on how to make it more agreeable and fun reading, I'd appreciate it. :)

Thanks muchly and I left you a more gushy letter on my own Talk page, Willow (talk) 20:14, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PNC Park peer review

Hello again, a few month ago you helped me get PNC Park up to a GA, I am now looking to get it up to a FA. I see you are currently "not accepting" copy edit requests, but if by somehow you get the time, please don't hesitate to add them to the peer review page. It should be there for at least a week. Thank you! Blackngold29 02:26, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, that song you wrote just about made my life. I expect more... Blackngold29 02:33, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Very engaging documentary! You must have spent a while editing! (BTW, you probably drove right past my home while I was preparing to leave for Egypt!) Awadewit (talk) 13:54, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

groups

Hello Scartol,

I have been covering your comments on group (mathematics) (Willow's are also being handled, but not yet fully done). If you want, have a look at my responses here Talk:Group (mathematics). Also, is it linguistically correct to write "groups share a fundamental kinship with symmetry"? Thanks again for your improvement suggestions and have a good day, Jakob.scholbach (talk) 08:33, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Scartol, I have left replies to your comments in the Talk:India House page. A massive thanks for the help, would appreciate more if you have it. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 13:04, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Leads and sundry

Hi, Scartol, I would like your opinion on an article I'm hoping to bring to FAC soon, and for once it has nothing to do with copy-editing! :) Another user and I disagree on the length of Stephen Crane's lead and whether or not it contains too much detail. I wrote the current version, so of course I'm biased, but I think it adequately follows WP:LEAD. If you have time, could you take a quick look and see what you think? If not, no worries; I'm merely spamming every lit bio affiliated user I can think of in order to generate more discussion and less ownership accusations. Sigh. The pertinent discussions can be found on the article's talk page. Take care, María (habla conmigo) 14:52, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Doha

Thanks. I will certainly let you know if i have question. I have some time this week so i'm hoping to finish up adding content to the article. then start the process of copy editing, hopefully, by the weekend. We are still trying to get permission from the WTO to use some images for the page, but I'm hopeful in getting permission. Thanks again --Patrick (talk) 20:55, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:India House

Hi Scartol, a massive thanks for the help. I put in almost word for word the rephrase you suggested. I think I'll renominate it again in a week or two, once I find an image of Krishna Varma. Let me know if there's anything I could do to return the favour. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 01:20, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Song

Hallo, I am from the german Wikipedia from the sociologic section, and I found out that you wrote a song text on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Song . We want to know the reason(s) why you wrote this song. It would be kind of you to leave an english (or german) comment on http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Wikipedistik/Soziologie/Musik&action=edit&redlink=1 .
